Obituary: Joseph Taylor, 36, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, died 14, 2016, after a brief illness. Joe was born on 9, 1980, in West Palm Beach, Florida, the second of five children to Linda and Ralph “Ned” Gambardella. Joe graduated from Fort Pierce Central High School in 1999 and earned an Associate in Arts Degree from Indian River State in 2004. Joe went on further to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Warner Southern in 2007. On May 5, 2007, Joe married Tonya Russell. Surviving Joe are his loving wife, Tonya; mother and “Pops,” Linda and Ned Gambardella; twin brother Vincent; brothers Brad and Billy; sister Tracy (Marcus); numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and god-children. In 1998, Joe began his public service with the City of Port St. Lucie Parks & Recreation Department, where his passion and commitment to youth would manifest itself. Joe began his employment in Parks & Recreation as a Summer Youth Worker, and, through his strong work ethic, and a brief period of time spent in the City Clerk’s office, would ultimately serve in Parks & Recreation as Recreation Specialist. In Parks & Recreation, Joe would discover his true passion - serving youth. Joe developed and ran many years of successful summer camp programs for Port St. Lucie youth, assisting more than 12,742 children on their life journeys. As a youth, Joe was mentored by many. As a young adult, Joe embodied those qualities and shared his life lessons and experiences with the children in his life, instilling in youth that all kids can succeed-without exception! Joe leaves behind a legacy fulfilled, albeit abbreviated, having dedicated himself not only to his family and friends, but to his steadfast pursuit in empowering and enriching the lives of children. Joe’s years of public service positively impacted the lives of countless youth. Joe was an active member of the Florida Recreation and Park Association, enjoyed golfing, softball, lounging poolside with wife Tonya and friends, cheering on his NY Mets, University of Miami and NY Giants teams, and enjoying the simple things in life - family and friends. Joe’s loving and generous spirit continues to touch lives. It was his desire to help improve or even save someone’s life by organ donation and there is comfort in knowing that others may be given a second chance thanks to Joe’s precious gift. Joe’s loved ones included family, co-workers, team mates and all will remember him with a smile, for the joy, love and sheer laughter that Joe brought to their world. “Oh, if all I got is your hand in my hand Baby, I could die a happy man.” Friends and relatives may call at Aycock (1170 S.W. Bayshore Blvd.) on , 18, 2016, from 2 – 4 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated for Joe at St. Lucie Catholic Church (425 S.W. Irving Street) on , 19, 2016, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Joe Taylor’s name. Until such time as the applicable paperwork is able to be processed, in order to donate to the memorial fund, please send your check, made payable to either Tonya Taylor or Larry Lankow and write on the memo line “Joe-Joe Taylor’s Camp Scholarship Fund,” to the PSL Community , 2195 S.E. Airoso Blvd., PSL, FL 34984. All funds will be deposited into “Joe-Joe Taylor’s Summer Camp Scholarship Fund,” which will then be distributed to those Parks & Recreation Summer Camp families within the community who need financial assistance. |
