Obituary: Nadine Dahlstrom was born on 8th, 1919 in Kingsburg, California, to parents of deep Christian faith, Oscar and Lillian Stokes. She entered into the presence of her Lord whom she diligently served on 22, 2014. Nadine, one of four sisters, attended Riverbend Methodist Church in Kingsburg. She earned her teaching certificate from Fresno State and taught elementary school in Kingsburg. She married Romaine Dahlstrom on Christmas day during WWII, and briefly lived in Colorado where he was stationed. the war, they returned to the Central Valley, settling in Fresno, where Romaine taught school, before becoming Principal and eventually Superintendent of the McKinley School District. Together they raised two children, Susan and Richard, and all were active in Fresno First Baptist Church where Nadine taught school and served on numerous committees and service projects for many years. caring for her husband through his illness and early death in 1973, Nadine went to work for the City of Fresno as a cashier for the Water District, retiring at the age of 75. Even though she held a full-time job by day, she was often found helping others in her free time. At the age of 60, she bought her first new car and insisted it have four doors so that she could give seniors a ride to church, which she did for many years. Always on the lookout for practical ways to serve those in need, Nadine was a generous and shining light to her friends, family, and neighbors. Her primary joy in life came from helping and serving others and participating in the lives of her beloved children and grandchildren. Nadine was an avid supporter of Bulldog football and basketball, attending numerous games and purchasing a seat for the new stadium. Nadine also loved her San Francisco Giants and 49ers. Even in her later years, she was well aware of the Giants World Series victories as well as the names of the players and where her teams were in the standings. Her enthusiasm, wit and hearty laughter are greatly missed by all who knew her. Nadine is survived by her son Richard Dahlstrom (Seattle), his wife, Donna, son-in-law Stephen Walker (Bakersfield), seven grandchildren and their spouses, seven great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Rev. Ernest Bradley, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband, Romaine Dahlstrom and daughter, Susan Walker, preceded her in death. The family is deeply grateful for the loving staff at The Grove for their many years of excellent care given to Nadine and for the supportive staff of Bright Horizon Hospice Service. A Memorial Service will be held at The Terraces at San Joaquin Gardens (5555 N. Fresno St.) on , 3rd, at 1:30 pm, in the Performing Arts . A Navy veteran of Viet Nam, Louis spent his post Navy years as a Technical writer for companies like Hewlett Packard Syscon and Unisys. Louis was a devoted Barbershop Quartet and Chorus singer that had many active years in the Woodland/Davis/Vacaville area. Most recently he sang for the American River Chorus in Sacramento. |
