Died November 12, … More Information
Dominique D'Agostini, born June 7, 1933 went to be with the Lord on November 12, 2014 in Vista, California. Dominique was 81. Obituary: There are not enough words in the English language (or the French or Italian ones either) to describe the impact that Dominique DAgostini made during his time with us. He was a friend to many and he was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Dominique was a true self-made man, and the embodiment of the American dream. He was a builder, a fixer, a tinkerer and a handyman extraordinaire. He was also a husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. His family, particularly his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandson, were the lights of his life.

Dominique was peacefully taken home to the Lord on 12, 2014, surrounded by his devoted family. As the patriarch of the DAgostini family, Dominique was respected and beloved by his wife, children, grandchildren, friends and relatives. Dominique was born on 7, 1933 in Lyon, France to Ernesto and Antonia DAgostini. He was the third of five sons, Joseph, Jerry, Alfred and Emil, and the last surviving DAgostini son. His family takes comfort in knowing that Dominique was greeted warmly in Heaven by his brothers, parents and too many friends and relatives to count.

Dominique lived a long and prosperous life, with many accomplishments to show for himself. In 1952, at the age of 19, he arrived in this country. Though poor and not formally educated, he and his brothers worked hard to take advantage of all of the opportunities that America offered. It wasn an easy life, but through hard work and skilled craftsmanship, the brothers would eventually prosper. He and his brothers started businesses together, all of them in the construction field. He remained close with his brothers and their families his entire life.

In 1956, Dominique married the love of his life, his childhood sweetheart, Cathy. met as children in Italy, as family friends. Dominique and Cathy lived in Hawthorne, California, and welcomed daughter Diane in 1958 and son Frank in 1960. Dominique was a wonderful and devoted family man. He and Cathys love story was the kind that people aspire to. doted on each other, took care of each other and relished time spent with their family, hosting weekly dinners, along with holidays and celebrations, sometimes for no reason at all than to enjoy a party.

Dominique did well in business, and in 1972, he moved his family to a sprawling property in Vista, California, where they still live today. Dominique was the first of his family to move to Vista, but everyone soon followed.

Maintaining his property, affectionately known as The Compound, was one of Dominiques greatest pleasures. Most days, Dominique could be found tinkering away on one project or another, riding around on his golf cart, four-wheeler or tractor, rain or shine. Although, if it was raining, he always wore his cowboy hat.

Dominique had a great love for cowboys and western culture. He loved watching black-and-white cowboy movies, and he raised animals on his farm, including horses, chickens, sheep, peacocks and even, for a short time, emus. Soon, his farm was converted into a mock western town, providing his grandchildren and nieces and nephews (and their friends) with their very own life-sized western play town. He would also let school children have field trips to his cowboy town. Cowboy Town is a symbol of the creativity and imagination that Dominique possessed. If he could dream it, he could build it. He was known to photograph specific structures to recreate on his cowboy town. He would sketch out ideas and put them into action. Aside from being a skilled builder and craftsman, Dominique was also a gifted and creative artist. He was always precise and always thorough.

Although Dominique is often described as soft-spoken or a man of few words, he had an infectious sense of humor and could often be heard cracking wise and making people laugh. He was humble, ethical and kind, a true old-fashioned gentleman. Good-natured to the core, his family can rarely recall him ever getting angry or raising his voice. Although, on the rare occasion that he did, we knew he was right and we listened.

Dominique was very active in the Italian-American community of Vista, hosting many events and celebrations throughout the years. His famous Cowboy Town was the site of many a festa, an Italian celebration. He was proud of his heritage and happy to share it with his family.

Dominique is survived by his wife, Cathy D'Agostini, his son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Melissa D'Agostini, his daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Glenn Ianni, his grandchildren, Nicole Ianni, Jennifer Ianni, Amanda and Joe Saldana, Nick D'Agostini, Derek D'Agostini and Michael and Isabel D'Agostini, and his great-grandson, Jayden Saldana. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Josette D'Agostini, Aurelia D'Agostini, Aida D'Agostini and Anna Ianni, his brothers-in-law Emile Ianni and Rico Ianni, and their families.

While we, his family, are feeling a profound sadness at the loss of Dominique, we know that his was a life well-lived. The legacy he leaves behind is immeasurable, but it is seen in the relationships we have built with one another. We are all connected because of Dominique and his brothers. To use a builder's term, family is the foundation and we have built an extraordinary one. were our models, and we can only hope to be as good as these brothers were. We know that we were blessed to have Dominique in our lives for as long as we got him. We also know that the DAgostini brothers are together in Heaven, sipping cognac and looking down on us, proud of the family they built.

Obituary: Remo dAgliano, who touched the lives of so many people, was born in Florence, Italy to Amelia and Raffaello dAgliano on 16, 1934. He grew up around the food and the restaurant business, and it became his lifes passion. He worked in some of the finest restaurants in Europe including the Savoy Hotel in London where he served as the Chef de Rang, Maitre dHotel and Banquet Manager. He loved Great Britain, and after marrying the love of his life, Dany, they moved to Scotland where they lived for many years. Their daughter, Sabina, was born in Edinbourgh.

With his little family, Remo decided to follow his mother and father to the United States in 1964 to pursue his dream of opening a family restaurant. He came to Carmel and was offered, along with his parents, the opportunity to open Club XIX. Sadly, his father passed that year, and Remo and his beloved mother decided to buy a small restaurant in Carmel instead, which they named in honor of his father.

Raffaello Restaurant opened in 1966 with Amelia in the kitchen and Remo running the front. The restaurant won many awards over the years, including the Holiday Magazine award, Mobile 4 Stars and the Coppa dOro de la Gastronomia Internazionale from the Italian government for the manner in which he elevated Italian cuisine to a gourmet standard. The restaurant was an extension of him, both distinguished and elegant.

Remo was a member of the Chaine de Rotisseurs, the International Master Chefs, DiRONA and the Accademia Italiana della Cucuna and Les Toques Blanches. He loved his friends in the Gentlemans Wine Club and the Birthday Boys.

When Remo retired after 37 years at Raffaellos, his joy was in the company of friends, enjoying good food and great wines. He also had more time to devote to his other passion, bicycling. Remo had raced on French teams in Europe in his youth. He was a Past Road Champion, and placed 4th in the U.S. Nationals. He would ride between 25 and 100 miles every day! He helped found the Velo Club of Monterey and spent much of his free time throughout his life nurturing young riders with dreams of being in the Tour de France.

He is survived today by his adoring wife of 52 years, Dany, his daughter Sabina, and his beloved grandchildren, Montana, Greyson and little Remo. His grandchildren were the light of his life and called him he Genius much to his delight. He was one of a kind and is missed by everyone who knew him.

Friends are invited to celebrate Remos life on , 20, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Carmel Mission, 3080 Rio Road, Carmel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Remo to Rancho Cielo Drummond Culinary Academy, PO Box 6948, Salinas, CA 93912 or online at http://www.ranchocieloyc.org/Culinary_Academy.html.

Obituary: Thelma Ruth d'Ablaing, 66, of Chula Vista, California, passed away at home , 30, 2014 with the love of her life Gene d'Ablaing at her side.

She was born to the late Otto and Alice Stegenga, Dec. 14, 1947, in the small town of Rock Valley, Iowa. Shortly after her birth, Otto and Alice purchased a farm in Chester South Dakota, where Thelma grew up.

As the youngest, she shared many childhood experiences with her siblings, Marge Smith Henry of Ramona California, Pete Stegenga (Doris) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Kenny Stegenga of Mitchel, South Dakota.

Growing up on a farm, Thelma acquired many traits that lasted her entire life, whether it was grading eggs, harvesting crops or operating farm machinery, her work ethic was impeccable.

Thelma graduated from Chester Area School in 1966 along with the original 24 students who started kindergarten with her, in the one room school. She maintained these friendships through the years.

graduation, Thelma moved to San Diego, and lived with her sister Marge. She brought with her values and decency of the Midwest. It was these qualities, along with her sparkling blue eyes and radiant smile that caught the attention of Gene.

met while both worked at Sexton's Steak House, she in accounting and he as a cook. met when she was 18, were engaged at 19 and married at age 20.

Thelma and Gene were married in San Diego California on 28, 1968 in the Chapel of Happiness, a marriage filled with happiness and devotion, a marriage that lasted for 46 years until her death. The first year was in San Diego while Gene was serving with the U.S. Navy at Miramar Naval Air Base.

Thelma, the ever faithful wife, followed Gene to Honolulu, Hawaii when the Navy transferred him. While in Hawaii for 2 years, it was like an extended honeymoon. traveled through the islands experiencing the true aloha spirit. Thelma acquired many lasting friendships with her winning personality.

Thelma worked at Honolulu Iron Works in accounting, while Gene served as the Military Liaison at the Honolulu Police Department.

Gene's military obligation, they moved back to San Diego, where, Thelma took a position with Master Machine in National City in accounting, while Gene looked for employment, ultimately hiring on with the Chula Vista Police Department.

In 1972 they moved to Chula Vista, and their first child, Laura was born and then Derrick in 1976. Thelma sustained the family during Gene's career at the Police Department. She was always there for the kids, passionately supporting them during scouts, extracurricular activities at the schools, sports and the tasks of getting them ready for adult life. She did an outstanding job and was the ultimate mother, passing on many of her fine qualities. She quit working while the children were in their formative years so she could devote her full attention to the well being of her children.

She was always supportive of Gene in his career at the Police Department, helping him at those required social events and an advocate in his pursuit of advancement with in the ranks to management, always at his side with the positive spirit she possessed.

Thelma eventually went back to work, hiring on at Frost Hardwood Lumber , in the accounting department. Her accounting responsibilities were especially remarkable given that she did not take any formal accounting classes. She retired after 21 years in 1999. She was called back to "help out" during the tax season and worked on a part-time basis until of 2013.

She was active in the First United Methodist Church of Chula Vista and loved to travel and play bingo. Thelma and Gene got hooked on cruising early in their marriage, this allowed them to visit many places like the Caribbean, China, Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, South America, Europe and Antarctica.

She was a vibrant, generous creative woman who displayed a great zest for life, embracing every manner of adventure, bring positive energy to all her endeavors. She loved her family deeply and was a great friend to many.

She is now that star in the sky that winks down at you, telling you she still loves you and for you to have a good night.
