Obituary: A Life Remembered Hello, As I stand here I see family, friends and loved ones that have all come together to celebrate the life of Frank Gary Ujlaky. I am deeply humbled to see how many people he touched and cared for, but when I think of Gary one of the first things that comes to mind is admiration. Some may ask what is it that you admire? Well for all those who knew Gary they know him first as a father, and not just any father, but its the kind of father he was to his children. He loved them with all his being, he instilled many qualities in them, but it was his core values that defined him as a father, he taught them to keep their promises no matter what, and honor all their commitments, and that no matter how hard things got he taught them to work harder and never give up, and if you stumbled you had better get back up and try again. Gary was a man of integrity and truly believed and fought for what he believed in, and for those who knew him best would probably agree that once he made his mind up there was no changing it! Gary touched the lives of many and has instilled memories that will live on forever in the hearts of the people who knew him best. Gary is originally from the town of Flint, Michigan which was home to him many years ago. Gary had often told stories about going snowmobiling with his brother, John, behind their mom and dads cabin; or the many fun nights drinking beer and getting rowdy with family and friends at Oasis Bar. Gary was also known for his love of adventure - there was one time that Gary took out his old van and decided to go off- roading. In the van was a can of spray paint, so he got the idea to pop a hole in the can and go bouncing down the rugged path and letting the paint in the can spray out and cover everyone head to toe in paint! Everyone had so much fun and was laughing so hard! What a great time that was! Gary didn have much but what he had he gave to his kids. Gary would always take spare change and save it up until the end of the month, then he would take his children to the store to spend their savings on whatever they could get, sometimes they would get small toys, other times they would get candy. Gary loved seeing them get excited to collect their treasures! Gary also had enough love to extend to his childrens friends. When Gary and Nick met Jeff, little did they know they were meeting their next family member, and that no matter how much time passes Jeff and Nick will always be more like brothers and not just friends. Gary also had another way of making other family feel special, like when he took Patrick when he was 10 years old fishing in Alva, they had so much fun together even though they didn catch anything! One of Garys happiest moments was the day his daughter, Jodie got married. Looking back at the pictures he had a smile from ear to ear! He could not have been prouder and happier that day, even though he was giving her away that day, he knew she will always be his little girl! Another moment that Gary spoke about often was the day his son, Nick graduated from Riverdale High School, knowing the struggles Nick faced through out school, he was so proud when the principal called Nicks name to walk across the stage - he cheered as loud as his voice could cheer! For all those who knew Gary well also knew he had a deep love for cars, his favorite being the Corvette! But when he was needed to help pick out vehicles for his son, he didn hesitate to choose the cool ones, like when he and Nick bought the V-6 Pontiac Fiero, to the both of them it was one awesome machine! Gary also had a way of being Dad to all of Nicks friends, whenever one of the gang as he called them needed him he was always there, he would wake up early every day to drive Jess to school and to pick her up, just to be sure she got to and from school safely. Or at dinner time he always made sure the gang had plenty to eat. He knew they all loved his hamburgers, his spaghetti, or the famous macaroni and cheese with hot dogs! No matter whenever the kids went out, they all know that when they got back to Garys there was always something good to eat and a place for a group of kids to sit around the living room and watch T.V.! Gary was also never afraid to teach the gang something new, like the time Tonia wanted to learn to shoot firearms, being the military man he didn hesitate to teach her. Finally the one part of Gary that everyone could see, was how much he adored his grandkids! One of his most exciting days was when his grandson Kaleb was born! He was so excited to have his first grandson, but his two granddaughters Sammie and Tiff had him wrapped tight! would go downtown to Centennial Park and climb under the bridge to catch the tiny crabs that lived there, smiling the whole time chasing them and getting wet! The girls also knew that whenever they needed someone to tak to they could always turn to their Papa to talk about anything and everything, sometimes just talking tohim for hours about whatever came to mind. Obituary: UITERWYK, Maria (Miep), 97, of Columbus, N.C., and a resident of Tampa from 1955 to 1988 died , May 13, 2015, at Tryon Estates Medical , Columbus, N.C. Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, she was the daughter of the late Hendrik and Femia Drost Alberts and the wife of Jan Christiaan Uiterwyk, who predeceased her in 2005 after 66 years of marriage. Miep, along with her husband, founded Uiterwyk Corporation and Uiterwyk Shipping Lines with home offices in Tampa and other offices worldwide. For many years, she served as the chairwoman of the Tampa General Hospital Auxiliary. She and her husband were both very active in the Republican Party, and Miep served as a delegate to the 1984 presidential convention. Surviving are her brother, Henk Alberts (Johanna) of Tampa, her three sons, Robert H. Uiterwyk (Beth) of Hampton, VA, Jan D. Uiterwyk (Hart) of Brooksville, FL, and Hendrik Uiterwyk (Vicki) of Tampa. Also surviving are nine grandsons, Robert E. Uiterwyk (Nancy) of Atlanta, GA, Steven A. Uiterwyk of Lakeland, FL, John T. Uiterwyk (Patricia) of Laguna Nigel, CA., Jan C. Uiterwyk (Janel) of Piedmont, SD, Christopher S. Uiterwyk (Devon) of Norfolk, VA, Sean H. Uiterwyk (Lisa) of Hanover, NH, Dustin Graham (Carolina) of New York, NY, Patrick T. Uiterwyk (Kristin) Hingham MA, and John-Neil Uiterwyk (Megan) of Melbourne, Australia.; six granddaughters, Marieke Uiterwyk Nicol (Michael) of Dallas, TX, and Terrie E. Uiterwyk of Tampa; Jacqueline K. Conley of Portland, OR, Jessie M Miller, Tampa, FL., Jillena K.Valdez Tampa, FL and twenty one great-grandchildren. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation with family will be held 5-7:30 p.m. , May 18, 2015, at Blount & Curry , 605 S.
