Obituary: Lawrence C. Thompson passed away peacefully at his residence in Ft. Myers, Florida, on 18, 2016. Larry was born 2, 1919, the son of Samuel and Ethyl Mary (Weekes) of Canterbury, England. He immigrated to the United States with his parents and grandparents in 1923. eventually settled in Youngstown, Ohio. attending Youngstown State University, he joined the US Army Medical Corp in 1942 where he served in the Pacific Theater for 3 years during World War II. the war, Larry decided to pursue a career in medicine. He enrolled in The Ohio State University of Medicine. He met his wife Martha Naomi Speicher during his Residency at OSU. completing his Fellowship at St. Lukes in Cleveland, they moved to Mansfield, Ohio, where he began his pediatric practice. He helped coordinate Mansfields Polio vaccination program and was directly involved with the New Hope Program for the developmentally disabled for 20 years. Larry is survived by his wife of 67 years, Naomi of Ft. Myers, FL, his brother Bud of Youngstown, OH, his daughters Ann Miller (Tom) of Tampa, FL and Sue Schissel of Columbus, OH, his sons Brian of Cincinnati, OH and Peter (Lynn) of Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Norman of Youngstown, OH. Despite keeping appointments with his young patients and making hospital visits, house calls and middle-of-the-night phone calls, Dr. Thompson still managed to be a caring husband, father, grandfather to 5 grandkids, and in recent years a wonderful great-grandfather to 4 great-grandchildren. Larry was a quiet introspective individual yet he had a quick and friendly wit that allowed him to relate to everyone even at age 96. His family and friends will forever be inspired by his generosity, warm compassion for others and the number of lives that he so positively impacted during his 96 years of life. He was a longtime member of Grace Episcopal Church in Mansfield and St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church on Sanibel Island, Florida. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church on Sanibel Island, Florida, at 11 a.m., , 12, 2016. Obituary: Larry Lorenza Thompson went home to be with the Lord on , 12, 2016. Larry was born May 6, 1968 in Cottonton, Alabama to May Ruth Thompson & William Glenn. Larry was a committed member to the Revealing Truth Ministries and was heavily involved with his church family. He was loved by so many people; and was known as a kindhearted caring man who was always smiling and laughing. Larry served his country as a Gulf War Veteran for the United States Air Force, in which he served 20 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He obtained his Masters degree in Computer Engineering and shortly thereafter, he became employed at MacDill AFB 6th Medical Group as their Hospital Network Administrator. Larry’s entire world revolved around his children who he held close to his heart. There wasn’t a special event or game of theirs he didn’t attend. He is survived by his sons, Larry L. Thompson II, Anthony Davis and Robert Davis; his daughters, Ashle Marie Thompson, Lauryn Rose Nicole Thompson and Leilani Marie Thompson; eight grandchildren, three brothers, Richard Thompson, Clearance Thompson and Christopher Thompson; three sisters, Mary Thompson, Jacqueline Griggs, and Judy Wespress. A visitation will be held on , 20, 2016 from 10:30 am- 11:30 am, followed by a service at Noon at Revealing Truth Ministries Church, 5201 N. Armenia Ave, Tampa, FL 33603. Burial will take place on , 22, 2016 at 11:30 am at the Florida National , 6502 SW 102nd Ave Bushnell, FL 33513. |
