Obituary: Patricia Marie Miller passed away peacefully 4 in Redding at the age of 88. She is survived by her three children; Debra Diner (husband Bob) of Redding, Ricky Miller (wife Linda) of Redding, and Robert Miller (wife Ann) of Phoenix, as well as her four grandchildren; Robert and Kali Miller of Phoenix, Daniel Diner of Redding, and James Diner of Bellevue, WA, and one great grandchild, Audrey. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Miller, in 1989, and her parents, Andrew and Ora Rowan, of Lompoc, CA. Patricia was born in South Dakota and moved with her parents to Lompoc, CA in 1935. She became a registered nurse in 1948. It was while working as a surgical nurse in Lompoc that she met her future husband, Don.Patricia and Don travelled extensively, with their children, all over the U.S., Hawaii, Alaska, Fiji, New Caledonia, Tahiti, Mexico, and Europe. She and Don went on a thirty day African bush safari. moved to Redding 30 years ago to be near Lake Shasta, where they had a houseboat, and enjoyed many wonderful summers on the lake. Pat was an avid horseback rider, golfer, and bowler. Services will be held , 16th at 2pm at McDonald's Chapel, 1275 Continental St., Redding, CA. |

Obituary: Patricia Miller was born on May 2, 1946 and passed away 10, 2015 at the age of 69 in Laguna Hills, Ca. She survived by her husband Glenn Miller. Pat was born in Roswell, N.M. to Ed and Roberta Gains. Following her elementary years she attended high school in the Houston area where her father helped train the first astronauts at NASA. She attended Texas Tech University for two years before becoming a flight attendant for American Airlines. Pat worked for American for 31 years and was twice voted flight attendant of the year by her peers. Patricia loved animals and wanted to see the world. She combined them both by going on two African safaris. She also managed to visit all seven continents. Her first Husband, Fran Oswald became Regional Sales Manager of the West Coast for Kodak. He died of Guillian-Barre syndrome in 1997. In 2005 Pat married Rev. Glenn Miller and they moved to Laguna Woods, Ca in 2007 following Glenns retirement. All who met Pat enjoyed being with her and her sense of humor. She would light up a room when she entered! She will be missed. |

Obituary: Patricia "Pat" Miller was born on 30, 1937 in Madison Wisconsin. She was the oldest of four children born to Jim and Lillian OBrien and was their only daughter. She shared life with her brothers Skip, Ron and Keith. She was fifteen and a half when the family moved to Van Nuys California where she graduated from Van Nuys High School in 1955. On 2, 1955 Pat married sweetheart, Dave Miller at St. Elizabeths in Van Nuys. Two years later they started their family and she devoted all her energies to bringing up their four children, DaAnne, Donna, Brian and Brent in the San Fernando Valley. When her children married, she refused to call the new additions to the family in-laws, and instead called them in-loves. Her children produced eleven grandchildren, whom she called "Gods kisses". Dave and Pat recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. A deeply religious person, Pat served as a Eucharistic minister at a convalescent hospital in Canoga Park for many years until she and Dave moved to Santa Clarita. Pats interests were broad, however she was an artist at the core. Through the years she enjoyed sewing, oil painting, creating cards and painting decorative art pieces. She also loved nature and kept a beautiful garden and fed half the bird population in Santa Clarita. She also passionately enjoyed travel. Pat was 72 years "young" when she passed away on 7, 2009. The following is the eulogy given by Pats daughter, DaAnne: A Tribute to Pat Miller My mom was a painter to the core. Since I am not a painter, I learned recently that painting essentially comes down to five sequential steps: Study the Subject Start with underpainting Identify the big shapes Color Block in Finish In the next few minutes, I will attempt to paint with my words the essence of my mothers life and create a portrait of her using these steps. Step 1: Study the Subject All painters study their subjects before they lift a finger to paint. So for this portrait, what do we know about our subject? Pat was strong. She was born the first of four children and grew up in Pardeeville Wisconsin. She was proud of the fact that she was her fathers only daughter and a tough daughter she was too. She would regale us with stories of her best friend Rhoda and her beating up boys on the schoolyard...because they could...and she was particularly proud of the time she and Rhoda snuck up on some boys who were skinny dipping in a river and grabbed their clothes and scattered them throughout the town where they lived. Those boys never found out who did it. Her brothers learned quickly to respect their big sis. My brothers found out the hard way a few times just how strong she was as did my cousin Keith Miller who recalls "...as a 10 or 12 year old I let myself get into a wrestling match with her. She won. I was embarrassed. I still had some work to do if I was gonna "pin" her." Mom was around thirteen before she discovered she was a woman and started to act that way, but that woman could carry her own and you didn want to mess with her! Pat was fragile. At fifteen, mom was the captain of the cheerleading squad in high school and had a steady boyfriend. She left all that was safe and comfortable when her dad took a job that required the family move to Van Nuys, California. Attending Van Nuys High School, she went from being a big fish in a little pond to a small fish in a big pond. In her grief, she lost the will to live and dropped to 89 pounds before her parents were able to break through. Throughout her life she battled depression - not severly enough to require medication, but she battled nonetheless. It wasn until she was in her fifties before she understood the reason: that part of her had died on that road to California all those years ago and that she had never truly mourned the loss of her life in Wisconsin. She was finally able to make peace with her past and forever buried it. She absolutely refused to let depression take a hold on her after that. Pat was passionate Mom felt deeply and expressed it. She would often explain it came from the simple fact that she was Irish. One of her common sayings was, "Im not angry, Im just frustrated!" Her passion moved her to take on causes important to her such as demonstrating against an adult book store located near our church and a hospital that performed abortions. That passionate spirit has been passed down the line in granddaughters Sherene and Jonelle, and in me. It is a trait I am proud to have inherited because I know that when passion is channeled toward a good cause, I can have a positive effect in the world...as she did. Pat was compassionate One of the more marked characteristics of my mom was her compassion for other people and animals. One of my earliest memories was seeing my mom hand feed a litter of kittens who had contracted valley fever and she nursed at least one back to health. Upon my grandmas counsel, my dad gave her a bichon frise to help fill the hole left by her now grown children. Always one with words, she named her dog Miaya Sanitee...my sanity. Her love of birds is well known and was a special bond she and I shared as I learned to appreciate these beautiful creatures. Last week we turned on a nature channel on the TV in the hospital and periodically she would look at point at it...it was always a bird she was looking at!
