Obituary: Nuestra madre, Ángela Méndez, nació en Santa Cruz de Bravo, Silacayoapam, Oaxaca, México. Cuando era niña adoraba a su padre Leopoldo Méndez, quien falleció cuando ella tenía 9 años de edad. Después de la muerte de su padre, nuestra madre estuvo al cuidado de sus abuelos paternos. A los 17 años, se casó con nuestro padre, Raúl Ramírez, quien conquistó su corazón en su caballo blanco bailando en la plaza principal. De los diez hijos que tuvieron nuestros padres, solamente uno murió a la corta edad de once meses. En 1987 nuestra familia empezó a emigrar a los Estados Unidos; para 1996 la familia completa ya estaba reunida en San Diego, California. Nuestra casa siempre estaba llena de risas y niños. Después de criar a sus propios hijos, nuestra madre también ayudó a criar a muchos de sus nietos. Su amor y devoción por sus hijos fue incondicional y no tenía límite. Nuestra madre fue una persona compresiva, paciente y amorosa; tuvimos mucha suerte de tener a un ser humano tan increíble como nuestra madre y ahora aún más afortunados por tener su guía y protección desde el cielo. Hace dos meses, nuestra madre fue diagnosticada con cáncer. Después de una corta pero dolorosa lucha contra esa enfermedad, estamos tranquilos sabiendo que nuestra madre ya no sufre y se ha reunido con su padre y nuestro hermano. Perder a nuestra madre a causa de cáncer fue una experiencia desgarradora, sin embargo, estamos agradecidos con Dios por habernos dado la oportunidad de pasar sus últimos días con ella. El cáncer tomó a nuestra madre, pero nos dio fortaleza, fe y momentos que siempre recordaremos. Este 23 de Julio, nuestra madre cumplió 64 años. Ya que no pudimos celebrar su cumpleaños en el hospital, en este día queremos celebrar no solamente su cumpleaños, sino también su vida y legado. Tuvimos una madre extraordinaria y siempre la recordaremos por su fortaleza, belleza y bondad. Nosotros no le decimos adiós, sino hasta pronto. Nota de agradecimiento Queremos agradecer a todas las personas que nos han ofrecido un cálido abrazo y palabras de aliento durante este tiempo tan difícil. Sobre todo un gran agradecimiento a las personas que visitaron a nuestra madre, su cáncer le causaba mucho dolor, pero ese dolor desaparecía cuando tenía visita. Su presencia aquí muestra su amor y devoción por ella. Sabemos también que hay muchas personas que no pudieron estar aquí físicamente, pero sus pensamientos y su buena vibra se sienten claramente. Siempre supimos que nuestra madre era una persona especial, pero nunca nos dimos cuenta del impacto que causó en otros. Ella no solamente capturó el amor y el afecto de sus seres queridos, sino también se ganaba el cariño de personas que no conocía. Estamos eternamente agradecidos con ustedes y por esta experiencia. Obituary: Teresa C. Marquez, age ninety-nine, passed away peacefully on 15, 2016 in Chula Vista, California. She resided in Chula Vista for over eighty years. She was born on 14, 1916 in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico. Her parents were Policarpio Castro and Delfina Castro Osuna. She was the second of ten children. Her siblings were: Paulina, Inez, Jesus, Consuelo, Miguel, Balbina, Fidelia, Mariana, and Pedro. When she was young she enjoyed going to school, playing with her brothers and sisters, and helping her mother with the household chores which were many in those days! She also liked to help her father with the farm crops and animals. When she was nineteen years old, she married Doroteo (better known as Teo) Marquez and immigrated to the United States in 1935. settled down in Chula Vista, California and lived on the Otay Ranch where Doroteo was a ranch forman for the next forty years. Together they raised a family of four children: Manuel, Dort, Theresa, and Policarpio. Teresa remained on the ranch until her husband's passing in 1973. She used to say that these were very happy years for her. She was a homemaker her whole life who enjoyed the ranch life, cooking, gardening, sewing and tending to her chickens, rabbits, goats, pigs, dogs, cats, birds and other animals. She also enjoyed cooking her famous tortillas and tamales and loved entertaining the many family members and friends who would come to visit. She enjoyed her travels to Sonora, Mexico and Arizona to visit her many sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Even though she only attended primary grade school, she kept up with the latest local, national and world news by watching her favorite Spanish language channels on tv. She was very well informed and could speak on various issues, including politics, and was not afraid to voice her opinion! In her later years, Teresa moved to San Ysidro, California where she resided until her death. She lived a long, and fruitful life. She will be remembered for her generosity, caring heart and vibrant spirit. Teresa was a strong, spiritural woman who loved the Lord, and life, and liked to help others in need. We are blessed that she instilled in all of us those same values and for that she will always be loved and dearly remembered. Her survivors include her four children and their spouses: Manuel (Virginia), Dort (Emma) , Theresa (Jose), and Policarpio (Lupe), eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren. Teresa's viewing will be: , 22, 2016 from 5-9:00 p..m. at the Glen Abbey Chapel of the Roses, 3838 Bonita Rd., Chula Vista, CA 91902.
