Obituary: In Memory of Clarence Buck Matthews 22, 1941 - May 6, 2017 Obituary Clarence Buck Matthews, 76, passed away , May 6, 2017 in Palm Bay, Florida. services will be held at 10:30 AM, , May 16, 2017 at Fountainhead with interment to follow at Fountainhead Memorial Park in Palm Bay, Florida. Clarence was born in Henderson, North Carolina on 22, 1941 to the late Julian and Vera Matthews. He attended Henderson High School through his Junior year, and graduated from Franklinton High School in 1959. At the age of 24 he was drafted into the U.S. Army to fight in the Vietnam War. However, it was during Basic Training that he was diagnosed with a rare eye disease coined ight blindness and so he was honorably discharged within two weeks. Buck, as he was known to friends and family, was a natural-born charmer. From his early days helping his dad at the familys gas station, Matthews Service Station in North Carolina, Buck found himself excelling in the customer service business. In 1972 in Northern Virginia, during a bank deposit run as an ABC Liquor Store Manager, Buck met the love of his life in teller, Bonnie. It remained a hotly-debated topic of who convinced whom to marry, but after a few short weeks Buck and Bonnie married and later honeymooned in Florida. another 12 years of cold weather and diminishing eyesight, Buck made the decision to retire on disability from the state of Virginia-owned ABC Liquor stores. Harking back to their honeymoon days, Buck and Bonnie moved the family to the warmer climates of Florida in 1985. Buck took up the mantle of House Husband, working on Bonnies honey-do list. Bucks greatest pleasure was fulfilling Bonnies dreams. from putting in the pool in the backyard to vacationing in Bonnies beloved Las Vegas. Their stories often revolved around their adventures in Vegas. Buck is preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Vera, his brother Bill, and his soul mate, Bonnie. He leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law Christie and John, his son and daughter-in-law Jason and Jennifer, and his beloved grandchildren Chase and Tyler. He is also survived by his sister, Ginny, and 28 nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations made in Clarence Buck Matthews memory. Carolyn lived in Illinois until 1984 when she moved to Tennessee; in 1999 she made the move to Florida with her husband to be with her daughter and son in law. Carolyn enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and watching football and basketball on the television.
