Obituary: William Bill K. Marten, 91, of Merritt Island, Florida passed away on , 27, 2016 at Trinity House in Merritt Island. Services will be held on Sep 17th 2016 at 11am at Grace Methodist Church, 65 Needle Blvd, Merritt Island, Florida 32953. Bill was a friendly, kind and gentle man who loved the outdoors and travel. He boasted that he had never known a stranger. He loved to dance and rode his bike up to 10 miles a day into his late 80s. He was also a great teacher and an example of the word patience. He grew up in Philadelphia and attended the Philadelphia of Bible. He served in the Merchant Marines and had a varied career which included carpentry, house painting, his own residential aluminum business and finally as a trucker hauling mobile homes and driving tanker trucks of fuel in Central Florida for decades. Bill worked last for Kenan Transport in Cape Canaveral, Florida and when he finally retired, he was very proud of the fact that he was the oldest truck driver on the team in the state. An active member of Grace United Methodist Church of Merritt Island for the last 30 years, Bills faith, and devotion served as an inspiration for all who knew him. He read his Bible daily and kept his prayer notebooks in the pocket of his shirt at all times. Christ came first for him in all that he did and Jesus had his undivided attention until his last breath. Bill was married twice. With his first wife Sarah, he had four wonderful children, two daughters, Robin and Melody and twin sons, Tim and Ken. He married his second wife, Flavia and was fortunate to add her four wonderful children, son Ron and daughters Karen, Sharon and Michelle to his brood. When anyone asked him about his children, In Bill's words he had 8 children and they were all his children, his sons, his daughters, never a step child among them. He spent his retirement years working around the house, camping and traveling to Lake Charles, LA for annual LeBlanc family reunions where he was always the last one on the dance floor. Flavia passed away in 2005, he embraced the Merritt Island Grief Counseling Services, first as a widower and then as a counselor to many other widows and widowers in the community. He remained independent and self-sufficient, living in his own home until the very end of his life when he moved to Trinity House and received loving care from the staff of Trinity House and Vitas Hospice. His life could be summed up in three important words, faith, family and fun. He is survived by his children, Robin Leidy and husband Randy, Melody Herr and husband Demitri, Ron Cherven and wife Suga, Sharon Manning and husband Terry, Michelle Reynolds and husband Ray, Karen Soule and his daughter-in-law Lorrie Marten. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren: Krissy, Stacy, James, Charlie, Ashley, Natasha, Phillip and Cevyn, Sumin, Hee Jae, his five great-grandchildren: Sidney, Ashleigh, Amanda, Haley and Chase and his sisters Helen Susko, Florence Marten and Betty Gibson and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorials can be made to Vitas Hospice or Ronald McDonald House. |
