Obituary: KALKINES, Jeanette Driggers, 90, passed away , 25, 2014, in the loving arms of her family. Born Jeanette Driggers on 2, 1924, in Savannah, Georgia, she moved to Jacksonville as a child and lived in the city for almost all of her life. Following her graduation from Robert E. Lee High School, she was one of only a very few women who volunteered for military service as a WAC in World War II. While serving as a surgical technician in Utica, New York, she met and later married Harry Kalkines and they eventually returned to Jacksonville where they raised their two children, Chris and Kathy in the Beacon Hills subdivision. She worked for many years for the Child Guidance Clinic and Riverside Anesthesia Services. Jeanette, or "Giagia" as she is affectionately known to the family, devoted her life to God, her family, and serving and helping others. For 54 years, she was a very active member of Terry Parker Baptist Church where she taught School, sang in two choirs, including the "Keenagers" group, and found her dearest lifelong friends. She was active in the Baptist Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for many years, serving as President in 1964. Giagia always had a smile for everyone and was loved by all who knew her. Even at the age of 86 when her health was failing, she volunteered, delivering meals by herself to residents at Pablo Towers in Jacksonville Beach, where she also lived for several years. Giagia was an avid fan of golf, tennis and the Jacksonville Jaguars, and she loved her Bingo games at the Clyde Lassen VA home. Jeanette was predeceased in death by her father Sherrod Driggers, mother Wilma Driggers, brothers Rodney and Malcolm, and her sister Elizabeth Scott. She is survived by her children Christopher T. Kalkines and Katherine (Mitchell) Rhodes, and her three grandchildren, Alex and Nicole Kalkines, and Alexis Rhodes. Also surviving is her sister-in-law Caroline Driggers, nieces, nephews, and friends. A memorial service will be held at Terry Parker Baptist Church at 10:00 am on , 29, 2014. |

Obituary: Dolores Jeanette Kalka, age 83 of Haines City, Florida, and formerly of Warren, died , 23, 2015 at her home. She was born 19, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of the late Chester and the late Genevieve (nee: Pinkus) Kanski. When she wasn tending to the family or household needs, Dolores could often be found feeding her entertainment appetite with such favorite pastimes as reading and watching a little television. She was known for being quite the avid reader, her way of staying mentally sharp,…and it certainly helped that her usual book-du-jour was from the realm of the romance novels. As for her television taste, the channel that Dolores visited most often was the family movie genre of Lifetime. Always uplifting and heart-warming, the movies of Lifetime were a truly a staple for her. A longtime resident of Warren, it was some 30 years ago that Dolores made the decision to exchange the northern Midwest landscape of The Mitten for the sunshine beauty of Florida,…and she never looked back. Following the passing of her beloved Ernie, Dolores ventured south and laid roots in the central Florida hideaway of Haines City,…a quiet and peaceful setting for this wonderful lady. It didn take long for Dolores to fall in love with the area and build some lasting friendships, all of which went into making her new home that much more special. Yet of all the joys and pleasures that captured her heart the most, the moments & memories of Christmas with the family were amongst her most precious. The holidays just seemed to add an extra-special sparkle to those special few days of the year that lifted her spirits and gave her the opportunity to share the warmth of the season. And speaking of warm,…the holidays with Dolores were also a special time for everyones tummy as she was renowned for those delectable Christmas cookies she made with hands of love. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Dolores leaves a legacy of love for all to cherish who were blessed to know her. May her spirit continue to shine in the lives she touched throughout lifes journey. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Dolores was the beloved wife of the late Ernie. Dearest mother of Tom (Pam) Kalka, and the late Curtis Kalka. Loving grandmother of Theresa (Jeff) Hribar, Christel (Pete) Joslyn, Melanie (Gilroy) Aldana, and great-grandmother of Jacob, Gabriel and Rozenda. Sister of Mary (Al) Pasko, and the late Penny DeGrace. Visitation for Dolores will be held on , 29th from 5-9pm, with a 7pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons , 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. She will lie in state on from 9:30 am until time of the Mass at 10 am at St. Mary, Our Lady Queen of Families Catholic Church – St. Clement Site in Line. Interment will follow at St. Clement , just behind the church. Memorial donations are welcomed to the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674.
