Obituary: Anthony William Duacsek, 86, of Long Beach passed away 3, 2011. Born 25, 1925 to Anton and Theresa (Haras) Duacsek, Tony was a native Los Angelino and a parishioner at St. Stephens Roman Catholic Church. He attended Nativity School, graduated from J. H. Francis Polytechnic High School, and briefly attended Los Angeles City . He was accepted into the Navys V-12 Program in 1943 at the University of Wisconsin at age 18 and attended the University of Wisconsin where he received a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering. In 1945 he was commissioned an Ensign at the Midshipman School at Notre Dame University. There followed service in various ships and shore stations. At the outbreak of the Korean War he was serving in the Engineering Department in USS Valley Forge (CV-45) for which he was awarded a Navy Commendation Medal. He graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1954 with an MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering and served as Chief Engineer and later as Operations Officer in USS Colonial, (LSD-18). In 1955 he was selected for Engineering Duty (ED) and reported to the Naval Repair Facility, San Diego, as Ship Superintendent for Carriers and as Assistant Planning and Estimating Superintendent for Carriers, Destroyers, and Submarines. There followed service on Staff of Commander Amphibious Force, Atlantic and later Planning and Estimating Superintendent at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. Captain Duacsek was ordered to Vietnam as the Senior Advisor to the Vietnamese Naval Shipyard in 1965. For this service he was awarded the Bronze Star as well as the personal decoration from the Vietnamese Navy. The following year he reported to San Francisco Bay Naval Shipyard at Hunters Point as Repair Superintendent and Production Officer. In 1970 he transferred to the Naval Ship Systems Command in Washington D.C. where he was Director, Work Planning and Resources Division and Executive Director for Field Activities. His final duty was that of Commander, Long Beach Naval Shipyard and Supervisor, Shipbuilding Conversion and Repair from 1973 to 1975. Following his retirement from the Navy, from 1975-1977 he was employed by Hughes Aircraft Co. as a Mechanical Engineer, Marine Installation Section. From 1977-1979 he was Vice President and Chief Design Engineer for PRC Guralnick, a naval architectural company. He returned to Hughes Aircraft as Head, Maintenance Depot and later as Manager, Maintenance and Capital Equipment of the Ground System Group. He retired in 1985. Tony had a marvelous sense of humor and enjoyed entertaining friends and meeting new people. He loved swimming, photography (especially his history of the California Missions project), fine woodworking, music, history, and gourmet cooking. He and his wife traveled to 49 countries after retiring. He has made his home in Long Beach, CA for the past 35 years. His family was truly blessed to have him. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lou, three loving daughters, Diane Duacsek, Loraine Moreno, Monica Buehnerkemper, and five grandchildren, Christopher, Veronica and Julianna Buehnerkemper and Raquel and Anthony (Tony) Moreno.
