Obituary: Wendell Gaylon Dowling was born 15th, 1942, in Healdton, OK to Elzie Lee and Rena Mae Dowling and was the baby brother of 8 children. He was called home unexpectedly to his Heavenly Father on 7th, 2015. Wendell moved to Santa Paula in 1950 and began dating the love of his life, Lynne Andrea Mason, while attending Santa Paula High School and married her shortly after they graduated. Wendell is best know for his amazing talent as an artist and his great sense of humor. He was great at one-liner puns that his daughters referred lovingly to as dad jokes. His artwork can been seen throughout the Santa Paula community on three murals and 17 years of Santa Paula Cruise Night T-Shirts and many other areas of the community. He was a great storyteller and loved to pick up his guitar and sing to his grandchildren who all called him G'pa. He is survived by his wife of 53 years,Lynne Andrea (Mason) Dowling, his daughters Heather den Hollander (Peter) of Bethel, OH, Wendi Mitchell (David) of Fillmore, CA, and Laura Wong (Ken) of Bend, OR, grandsons Jeff Yarbrough-Dowling (Christine) of Bellingham, WA, Joshua Yarbrough-Dowling of Ventura, CA, Jeremy Yarbrough of Ventura, CA and J. Donovan Mitchell of Fillmore, CA, granddaughters Rebecca Sanders (Nathaniel) of Cincinnati, OH, Elisabeth, Emma, Sarah, Hannah, Nella and Bronwyn den Hollander all of Bethel, OH, great-granddaughter Charlotte Yarbrough-Dowling of Bellingham, WA and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elzie and Rena Mae and 7 siblings, Elzie,Jr., Richard, Virgil and Carl Dowling, O'Bera Duncan, Juanita Timberlake and Ruby Pool and many nieces and nephews most recently his nephew, Gary Dowling of Santa Paula, CA. A service will be held in his honor on 15th, 2015 at Ventura Missionary Church located at 500 High Point Drive, Ventura, CA. At 11 a.m. The graveside service will be at 1 p.m. at Santa Paula and a reception will follow at the Santa Paula Aviation Museum. Services entrusted to Skillin-Carroll Mortuary. 805-525-3391. |

Obituary: Raymond L. Dowling, born on 9, 1933, in Victoria, British Columbia, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 80, on 1, 2013 due to complications from a heart attack. He resided in San Dimas, California at the time of his passing. are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Covina, California. Ray was born in Nanaimo, Victoria Island, British Columbia, Canada on Jan. 9, 1933. His birth mother was Marjorie Dowling. Ray was lovingly raised (along with his adoptive sister Jean Quillen) by his adoptive parents Harold and Mary Stephenson in Vancouver, Canada. leaving home at the age of 16, Ray worked his way to Toronto where he found his two loves: his wife Joan and plastic injection molding. On 1, 1955, he married his caring wife of 58 years, Joan Perreira, of Georgetown, Guyana. In 1957, Ray along with pregnant Joan and baby Peggy, moved his family to Los Angeles. Ray started his own company, UPM, Inc. in 1962. The company has grown from three small machines with only a few employees to a successful company that employs nearly 300 people today. Ray was a leader in the plastics industry for over 50 years. Ray proved himself to be a generous, honest, humorous mentor to all. Although he only had a tenth grade education, Ray took immense pride in building a company that employed so many great people. He loved walking the floor, talking to employees about their lives, and finding a way to help them. He considered everyone who worked at UPM part of his family. Ray was a longtime resident of San Dimas and had battled back from several illnesses. He survived a stroke in 1982, a kidney transplant in 1990, and cancer in 2003. He was an avid golfer and will be missed at the Via Verde Country Club of which he was a founding member. Ray loved fishing in Cabo, water skiing at Lake Havasu, snow skiing, working his system at blackjack, winning at liars poker, playing cards with his friends, shooting pool, going to Laker and Dodger games, telling stories, and spending time with his family. Ray is survived by his wife, Joan, his four children: Peggy, Steve, Jason and Andy; six grandchildren: Kristi, Nick, Kelley, Raegen, Tatum and Luc; one great-grandchild: Riley; and two daughters in-law: Janis and Rusty. |
