Obituary: Milan Mathias Dostal was born on 7, 1929 in Hutchinson, Minnesota. He grew up on a typical mid-western farm complete with dairy cows, chickens, corn fields, and apple orchards. graduation from Hutchinson High School, he attended Macalester for two years and then achieved his Bachelors Degree and Juris Doctorate from the University of Minnesota. During the Korean War, Milan served two years with the US Air Force. passing the bar exam, Milan, married his high school sweetheart Dorothy Olsen and started his family with the birth of his son Rick. Soon, the family moved to Maryland while Milan worked in the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington D.C. as a trial attorney specializing in Torts and Aviation Law. Here, his family grew with the birth of his daughter Cindy. Tired of the snow and cold in winter, the family moved to Newport Beach where his family was completed with the birth of his daughter Pam. While practicing law, Milan served 8 years on the Newport Beach City Council with 2 of those years as Mayor. In 1989, Milan was appointed United States Administrative Law Judge. He served as judge in Los Angeles, Orange, Tucson and Phoenix before retiring in 2012. Shortly after being appointed judge, Milans wife Dorothy passed away. In 1990, Milan married Kay Boss and later, the couple moved to Tucson, Arizona for six years before moving back to Orange in 2014 to reside in Regents Point in Irvine. Milan was a very caring and dedicated father rarely missing one of Ricks baseball games or one of Cindys music and dance performances. And he was most proud of the work he and Dorothy put in to establish a school for deaf children, Oralingua School for the Hearing Impaired in Whittier, California, which taught lip reading and speech skills thus enabling deaf children to integrate into mainstream society. His daughter Pam is an example of the success of that school with her graduation from Newport Harbor High School and San Diego State University. Milan was also very active in his church, St Andrews Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach and enjoyed traveling, boating, fishing, panning for gold, sports, music and bridge. Milan passed away peacefully on 27, 2016. Milan is survived by his wife Kay; children Rick Dostal, Cindy and her husband Bob Long and Pam and her husband John Burns; sister Margaret Selleseth; grandchildren Kevin Burns, Matthew Burns, and Bobby Long; step children Eric Boss and Peter Boss; and nieces and nephews Ashrai Laroche, Dean Selleseth, Susan Carollo, Julie Selleseth, Cathy Jensen, and Doug Jensen. A memorial service will be held on , 7, 2016 at 4:00 PM at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach. under the direction of Pacific View Memorial Park and Mortuary FD1176, Corona Del Mar, CA. |
