Obituary: Dolly was born in Michigan in 1924 as Dolores Bernice Ludwig. She married Ivan C. Ransford on 3, 1942, and gave birth to five children, losing one child at the age of two. Ivan was the Chief of Police and Fire Department in Gibraltar, Michigan. The Ransford clan moved to California in 1965. Dolly and Ivan raised the children as working parents. Dolly worked as an office secretary while Ivan worked as a Millwright. Later Dolly became a successful businesswoman. Ivan and Dolly enjoyed bowling, singing, playing cards and entertaining together. eventually got into the horse world with their two youngest children, Patricia and Shari in 1968, and eventually bought and ran a feed store. Dolly became an extreme horse show mother encouraging her daughters to be very competitive, winning countless trophies and silver. Dolly loved to sit around the piano and sing while her sons, LD, and Rick, played the piano and guitar. Dolly was an avid hostess, inviting family and friends to celebrate all holidays with good food, drinks, trivia, cards and an occasional game of croquet at the park. Ivan lost his battle to cancer in in 1978. were married for 36 years. Ivan was terribly missed, yet Dolly refused to give up on life and love and survived his death with her head held high, proud of the years she had with him and the life they shared. Dolly later met and married Hal Deneau in 1981. Dolly and Hal enjoyed all kinds of dancing, boating, bowling, singing and dining out. socialized frequently and travelled around southern California making the most of their senior lives together by frequently spending time in Laguna, Palm Springs, Big Bear and Carlsbad. Dolly and Hal were active with the Elks Yacht Club in Newport Beach. starting their boating career with a 28 foot Sea Ray and moved up in the boating world, last owning a beautiful 46 foot vessel. frequently would go boating with the Elks to different ports in California and Mexico, partied with the Elks - living the retired life as if they were young and carefree. A favorite boating destination included several trips to Catalina during the summer. would often relive the humor of trying to get to shore via the infamous dingy dock at Avalon bay. also visited Catalina every celebrating Dollys birthday, enjoying the beautiful bay surrounded by music when Catalina hosted their annual jazz festival. Dollys love for animals and fondness for pets was clearly inherited by her daughters. Her love of music was passed on to her sons. She was always encouraging her children to enjoy life and made sure they had every opportunity to do so. Dolly lost her son, Rick age 41, on Christmas day in 1991. Her father, 92 passed in 1984 and her mother, 99 passed in 1999. Dollys beloved Hal passed away in 2005. Dolly struggled with his passing. She often asked why he was taken away so young. Hal was 83 years old. Dolly survived 8 years after Hal passed. Even up to the end, Dolly never lost her sense of humor. She gave us her beautiful smile even on the day of her death. She never complained, never whined and never felt sorry for herself even though she was confined to her bed for the last few months of her life. Even during her last week of life, she enjoyed shrimp from Panda, and love for singing and music, still singing along with her son in law, Bob, while he played his guitar. Dolly was a remarkable, strong willed woman who worked and played hard and was someone not to be forgotten. She was a quick minded, sharp tongued, intelligent, generous, beautiful lady affecting the lives of the people in her life in a powerful way. Her strength helped her survive the many deaths over the years. She was a rock of support; an amazing woman who will be missed tremendously. There is truly a new star in the sky shining bright tonight. May she find her peace in Heaven with the souls she loved and lost. Dolly is survived by her daughter Shari Ransford and husband Bob Parsons; daughter Patricia Cooper and husband David; son LD Ransford and wife Ellen; grandchildren and great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that you think of her and show an act of kindness or generosity to someone in need, as she would have done. |
