Obituary: Irene E. Demich CHULA VISTA, CA - Irene Elaine Demich passed away peacefully on 22, 2017. Irene was born in Wyoming, PA. on 7, 1933 to Joseph and Anna Chonka. graduating from high school, she began working as a seamstress in a local dress factory. It was there that Irene met her future husband, Tony. The relationship blossomed in 1952, when Irene would share her lunches with Tony who was known to exclaim her lunches were always better than his! were married in 1954 in Pittston, PA. started their family right away and Irene became a fulltime homemaker. First born Sharon was soon followed by Michael, Mark and then Sheila. In the summer of 1964 the family moved west to San Diego near Tonys older brother Tom. This cross-country move proved to be an adventure with four kids under the age of 10 in a packed station wagon. In 1970, the family relocated from North Park to Chula Vista. Summer vacations were a family priority for Tony and Irene, and frequent road trips to places such as Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Carlsbad Caverns and to visit relatives in Oregon were the norm with trips to the east coast every three years or so to visit family still living there. Many special memories were created during those lengthy car rides! Irene enjoyed many sunny summer days at the local beaches with her children and later her grandchildren. Although Irene would not be described as an animal lover, she did learn to live with the many family dogs, cats, guinea pigs and even ducks brought home as pets! Irene is survived by her younger brother Joseph Chonka of New Jersey, her four adult children, Sharon (Rick Elsheikh), Michael, Mark (Nancy) and Sheila. She was also blessed to have known her seven grandchildren, David, Diane, Samantha, Anthony, Alec, Camerine and Britney and see them grow to fine young adults. Her most recent joy in life was visiting with grandson David, his wife Donna and their son, Alex, her 16-month-old great grandson. A memorial service will be held , 29 at 1 p.m. at the Little Chapel of the Roses at Glen Abbey Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations made to the American Heart Association.
