Obituary: On 5, 2014, Valentin Ayala left this life to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and his beloved wife , Genoveva. He was 94 years old. "Don Valen" as he was known to friends, had a very full and long life centered around God and family. Born in Comerio, Puerto Rico on 11, 1920. He was one of 16 children on a small rural farm. Leaving his home at a very early age, he traveled to San Juan, and other places where he started a family. When he married Genoveva Montanez, he felt compelled that in order to provide a better life for them, they would relocate to the United States. arrived, some time in the 1940s in New York City. He never had much formal education, but his ability to learn by doing, and his motivation to work hard in order to provide for his growing family became a cornerstone of his reputation. He worked, sometimes two jobs at a time, eventually becoming a cook, then a chef at some of Manhattan's finest restaurants. Troubled by the threats New York City posed to his young children in the 1960s, they moved to Reading, Pennsylvania and eventually to Orlando, Florida in 1978. In the eighties, while in his 60's, he built his large home accommodating everyone, almost entirely by himself, on Merritt Island. Wherever he lived, Don Valen took time to join a church and share his Christian faith with his community. Leading by example, Valentin was admired by all who knew him, and exemplified Christ's message of love, compassion and forgiveness. He gave freely of his time, talent and treasure, and shared the message of salvation with everyone. He also taught by his example, what it meant to be a family, which will be his, and his wife's everlasting legacy. He was the loving father of 13 children, Elba, Aida, Isabel, Lourdes, Pedro (deceased), Dolores, Valentin Jr., Genovena, Joseph, Lawrence (deceased), Judith, Michael (deceased) and Paul. Together they have given him 35 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. have honored him by forming a team called "The League of Extraordinary Ayalas" which carries his picture on the shirts they wear at competitions. He was never any happier then when the family got together for holidays, or special occasions like family reunions, the most recent being in 2010. Generations of children can tell you he would pull them in close, put his arm around them, and simply say "Remember Jesus". His loving wife of more than 67 years, Genoveva, passed away in 2012 at the age of 90. He is survived by only 5 of his 15 siblings, Encarnacion, Felicita, Lydia, Juan and Eva. |
