Obituary: Alberta (Riedel) Akin passed away the evening of 23, 2016. She was born 28, 1938 to Nora & Albert Riedel in Brooks Oregon, but the new family soon returned to the Ft. Morgan-Brush area of Colorado. In 1948 they relocated to Denver, where she lived her remaining years. She was preceded in death by her father and her sister, Donna (Riedel) Probst. Alberta is survived by her husband Ronald Akin, mother Nora (Miller) Riedel, brother Richard Riedel children, daughter Cheryl (Akin) Shoemaker, and son Michael Akin. Albertas life was filled with the love of her grandchildren, Caley, Lindsey and Madison Shoemaker, Megan and Cooper Akin. Albertas light cannot help but continue to shine thru each of us, and thru the many people and friends whose life she has touched. Services will be held , 1 2016 at Olinger Chapel Hill, 6601 So. Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO. The Viewing at 9:00 to 10:30 AM, the Service at 11:00 AM, the Graveside ceremony immediately following the Service. Alberta was born in Brooks Oregon on 28, 1938 to Nora and Al Riedel, the first of three children; Herself, Richard and Donna who passed 9, 1974. It only took a short time before the new family moved back to Colorado and lived in the Fort Morgan-Brush area. She grew up with many of the younger children of her eleven aunts and uncles on the farms of the area. Her family eventually moved to the Denver area where her dad held various jobs before finally opening his own auto repair shop. some moving around they settled in and she began grade school at Barnum Elementary in the fifth grade. She soon made many friends including her best friend Kathy Hitchman and her future husband, Ronnie Akin, or so she told Kathy. Albertas artistic talents blossomed thru oil painting, knitting, crocheting, sewing clothing and eventually sewing draperies. Although this allowed her to contribute to the family income she remained focused most importantly on her roles as wife, mother, and homemaker. As her children grew and her motherly duties eased, her skills and talent led to the opening of her own business, The Inside Image, Ltd, a full service interior design business. Even though she often complained about the challenges of the industry, this was more a driving joy in her life than a job. She had achieved the unusual goal of making money doing something she loved enough to do it for free occasionally. She enjoyed her profession for thirty plus years. So far I have only mentioned her work week life. Frequent weekends, and vacation trips were taken trailering our boat or our camper. Camping was not always a one family activity either, as with the Miller or Feyerherm clans, many a campground was invaded and taken over nearly in their entirety. She went to Little League ball games, performed Girl Scout Leader duties and went fishing and hunting. Well only pheasant hunting once, because she got really really tired and had to discard her white roll-down socks because there were too many stickers in them, obtained while performing bird dog duties in the borrow ditches. She was always game for anything once. Extended family was important to her. Alternating between the Akins and the Riedels we always gathered for holidays, birthdays and any other special events. Often times she hosted or at least helped with the chores. We could always count on Alberta. She also nurtured this trait in her children who still argue who gets to host what and when. Family first, was her unspoken credo. For her fortieth birthday, 1978, she expressed a desire for a red sports car. I bought her one, a Persimmon colored 1979 MGB convertible. With that purchase a new branch of her life began to grow. The lure of wind in the hair, fun, and new adventures led us to the MG Car Club. Our membership not only allowed us to further enjoy the car, but the new friends poured in, all with that simple love of those tiny mechanical and electrical nightmares. All this, just because she wanted a red sports car. We still have that same car and always will. Another of her passions was to have a mountain cabin. We purchased one in Grand Lake, Colorado in 1983, which began a long process of repair, replace and improve. Family members from three generations worked tirelessly to make this place a mountain home where water fights, snowmobiling, hiking, fishing, and just sitting around playing games were the focus. Again family was the center and we learned to work together, eat together and live together. One of the curious questions from our time at the lake was-Why Barbie, Mickey Mouse, Incredible Hulk and Spiderman fishing poles are always more effective at catching fish than those expensive rigs us adults must to have. As I look back on our life together through memories and pictures of our time as husband and wife, I realize our time was perfect and I will miss her greatly until the day we are reunited in Gods house.
