Obituary: Gil Baber, 83, of Owensboro, died , 28, 2013 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. Gil was born, Gilbert Alfred Baber, 11, 1930 in Milwaukee, WI to the late Alfred and Mary (Denda) Baber. graduating high school in Milwaukee, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in a remote communications base in Alaska during the Korean War. He was a commercial and residential contractor from 1950 to 1970, and then became an energy industry entrepreneur in the Illinois Basin, Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, Ohio, and the Alabama Black Warrior Basin. He was the owner and CEO of Owensboro based Venture Drilling Corporation, 1973 to 1992. He was a proud member of the NRA. Gil, an accomplished fresh water fisherman, enjoying many hours of fishing with his family members. He put out an annual vegetable and rose garden. He was generous with his time and talents as the family handyman and artisanal bread baker. His family enjoyed the fact that his greatest pleasure was spending time with them and sharing his gifts. Surviving is his loving wife of 60 years, Evelyn (Polczinski ) Baber, daughter, Jeanne (Gene) Pfeiffer of Evansville, son, Gilbert (Sherry) Baber of Owensboro, daughter, Sandra (Dr. Jeff ) Schoen of Louisville, and a son, Mark Baber of Louisville, grandchildren, Matthew Baber, Graham Shoen, Melissa Baber, Cara Schoen, Colette Pfeiffer, Alexa Rowe, Eric Schoen and Christian Schoen, step-grandchildren, Andrea Siener, and Brandon Pfeiffer, and a brother, Jeff (Carol) Baber of Fernandino, FL. Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m. , 3, 2013, at Glenn and Crematory, with Dr. Paul Strahan officiating. Visitation will be 2 to 3 p.m. .

Obituary: Betty L. Bickwermert Babbitt, 76, of Fern Terra in Owensboro, passed away on , 8, 2013 at Owensboro Regional Hospital. She was born on 21, 1936 in Reed to the late Joseph Bernard and Lucy Amelia Schaffer Bickwermert. She was retired as a teacher and principal for the Catholic School System in Gary, IN. Betty was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church and loved her church very much where she sang in the church funeral choir. She was also a member of Senior Partners, Right To Life of Owensboro, and enjoyed going to the Elizabeth Munday Senior where she had sung in the Choral group. She and her husband Bob had been McCalley ministers at the hospital and in nursing homes. She was a former president of the Whiting Lions Club in Whiting, IN. She also enjoyed traveling, cooking, U. K. basketball, needlework, and loved her dog, Bud. She was preceded in death also by sisters, Margaret Coomes, Edna Bickwermert, and Frances Carrico, and brothers, Joseph Edward Bickwermert and Eugene Bickwermert. Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Joseph Robert Bob Babbitt, a sister, Marie B. James of Owensboro, and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be 10:00 A.M. , 11 at Immaculate Catholic Church with Father Tony Jones celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Mary of the Woods in Whitesville. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. with prayers at 6:30 P.M. and after 8:30 A.M. at Glenn and Crematory.
