Obituary: THOMAS, Mary Eloise, 99, passed away peacefully on 24th from a long and rich life. Born in Mississippi in 1917 the family moved to Florida in 1926 and to the beaches area in 1939 . Eloise was the eldest daughter of Mattie Harris and took great pride in helping rear her younger brothers and sisters. Married to Charles Paul Thomas in 1940 she gave birth to their daughter Priscilla while her husband was serving in the South Pacific during WWII. Retired from Southern Bell after 30 years, she served many years on the Beaches Hospital Auxiliary, served as past president of American War Mothers, was active with Telephone Pioneers of America and treasured her roles as elder and greeter at Community Presbyterian Church. Predeceased by her husband, mother, four brothers and one sister. Eloise is survived by her daughter Priscilla T. Roberts, grandson Charles E. Wilson Jr., sister Patricia Bartleson, granddaughter Patricia J. Wilson, nieces, nephews and many other close, loving family members in Jacksonville and beyond. The family will receive friends for a visitation on from 5-7 pm at HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach, FL. services will be held 10:00 am , Feb. 29th at Community Presbyterian Church, Atlantic Beach, with Pastor Peyton Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow in H. Warren Smith . Flowers are encouraged but for those who prefer to make a donation, you are asked to consider Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. |

Obituary: THOMAS - Mary Bolling Thomas, 95, passed away on , 9th after a long illness. Mrs. Thomas was born 18, 1920 in Clayton, North Carolina moving to the Avondale area of Jacksonville while still a small child. She remained a lifelong residence of the Jacksonville area. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Jacksonville physician Dr. Robert Yates Haynes Thomas lll who passed away in 1965. She was also preceded in death by her brother Alexander Strachan Duncan of Austin, Texas. Mrs. Thomas was the daughter of the late Paul Carlisle Duncan of Clayton, N.C. and the late Minnie (Bea) Strachan Duncan of Surry , Virginia. She was the granddaughter of Dr. Joseph Blackwood Strachan of Petersburg, Virginia and Minnie Ruffin Strachan of Spring Garden/Broomfield, Surry , Virginia. Mrs. Thomas was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School where she was a member of the Lambda Sigma sorority. She attended Florida State for Women in Tallahassee majoring in English literature and held membership in Kappa Delta sorority. She was a member of the Jacksonville Cotillion, Spinsters, and the Junior League of Jacksonville. Mary Bolling, as she was known by her friends, was a member of the Ponte Vedra Club, and honorary life member of Timuquana Country Club and the Florida Yacht Club. Mrs. Thomas was a longtime member of St. Marks Episcopal Church. She is survived by two sons, Robert Y.H. Thomas IV, and Peter Ruffin Thomas (Karen) and one grandson, Peter Ruffin Thomas Jr. Mrs. Thomas was strong-willed, compassionate, and a loving, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Fond of animals and the outdoors, among her most cherished memories were the years living with her family in their country home surrounded by pets, pastures, pine trees, pecan and orange groves, and Dr. Thomass fine harness and english saddle show horses. Always active, Mary Bolling enjoyed playing tennis, golf and bridge with her many friends. Despite losing her husband at an early age, when asked by her children if she ever needed anything, Mary Bolling always responded shed been blessed with everything shed could have ever hoped for. The family would like to acknowledge the love and support of the following caregivers: Delain Sawyer, Shirley Johnson, Baleesh Anthony, Sade Williams, Angel Studor R.N., Alesha Brust - Respiratory Therapist, Dr. Michael Stevens. A graveside service will be held at 3:00pm on , 18th at Evergreen in Jacksonville. Obituary: Mary Jo Thomas, MD a long-time resident of Palm Beach, died , 10, 2015 at Hospice of Palm Beach . Born on May 4, 1928, Mary Jo graduated from Rollins in 1950, and from Hahnemann Medical in 1958. Following her internship at St. Lukes Hospital and residency in pediatrics with Dr. Benjamin Spock at University Hospitals /Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio in the early 1960s, Mary Jo moved to Palm Beach. While raising a young family, she worked at the Palm Beach Medical Group, Good Samaritan Hospitals Emergency Room, and the former RCA plant in Palm Beach Gardens. In 1972, her career path changed for several years when Mary Jo and her sons moved to Gainesville, Florida so that she could complete a residency program in psychiatry at the University of Floridas Shands Hospital. In 1975, Mary Jo returned the family to Palm Beach, where she spent the next 30 years passionately practicing psychiatry, first with the Palm Beach Medical Group, and then in private practice from her memorable brick building on North Flagler Drive. Mary Jo was a former charter member of The Beach Club in Palm Beach, and former member of the Palm Beach Yacht Club. Mary Jo is survived by her two sons, David J. Thomas III with his wife Connie and their children Corinne and David IV, and Brook C. Thomas with his wife Laura and their son Reese. A celebration of Mary Jos life will be held this , 15, 2015 at 11:00 AM, at the Royal Poinciana Chapel in Palm Beach.
