Obituary: A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at Rainbow Presbyterian Church for Albert Alfonso Acker, 73, who went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ , 15, 2010, after an extended illness. The Revs. Robbie Hendrick and William Whitwer will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 tonight at Collier-Butler and at 10 a.m. prior to the memorial service at Rainbow Presbyterian Church. Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. for family and friends at Forrest . Collier-Butler and Cremation Services directing. Albert was a graduate of Gadsden High School and the University of Alabama with a degree in statistics in 1958. He served in the Army Reserve during the Vietnam era. He worked at Hayes Aircraft in Birmingham and the old Republic Steel Corp. (later becoming Gulf States Steel Corp.). He was active in many things, including serving as a poll official for 38 years, playing golf, being a member of an investment club, a coin club, a ballroom dance club and the Jacks University Club in Southside. He loved Alabama football and enjoyed watching them play with family and friends. Albert loved his wife and family very much, and they will always cherish their memories of him. He also loved his church family who were there for him in so many ways, but especially upholding him and his family with their many prayers. Before joining Rainbow Presbyterian Church in 1999, he served as deacon and elder at First Presbyterian Church, Gadsden, where he had been attending since birth. Albert was preceded in death by his wife of seven years, Marlene Brothers Acker; father and mother, Aubrey A. and Lillie Mae Acker; and sister, Mary Frances Gaston. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Gail Coker Acker; daughter, Susan Acker (Eric) Womack; son, Andrew Albert (Amanda) Acker; and three grandchildren, Savannah Firestone, Ethan Womack and Ally Acker. Pallbearers will be Gene Cleveland, Landon McWilliams, Ben Connally, Lynn Clayton, Tom Purkey, James Kampfer, Ronald Herrington and Don Wilson. A special thanks to Amedisys Hospice for being there with Albert and his family during this time. Flowers will be accepted or donations made to Rainbow Presbyterian Church building fund or the American Cancer Society . |

Obituary: ABSHER, Selvis Cleana, 79 of Marbury, passed away 10, 2014. Visitation will beld at Ridouts Prattville Chapel from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Going Celebration services will be held at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Brother Billy Woods officiating. Burial will follow in Prattville Memorial Gardens . Mrs. Absher was born 13, 1934 to the late Alvin F. Gentry and Josephine Boggs Gentry. She was known for being a homemaster because of her abilities to run her household and provide for her children. She enjoyed gospel music, gardening and spending time with her family and friends. She is preceded in death by a sister, Maureen Otto. She is survived by her children Butch Burns and his wife, Judy of Tuscaloosa, Tommy Franklin of Prattville, Lecia Franklin of Marbury, Jamie Gentry of Prattville, David Absher and his wife Charlotte of Marbury, Christie Ramirez and her husband Mario of Verbena; a brother, Douglas Gentry and a host of step children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members. |
