Obituary: Waterford - Hilda (Massad) Zizik, 91 formerly of 95 Clark ln, was called to the Lord on 16, 2011 at Fountain View in Waterford. Hilda was born at home in Norwich, Connecticut on 2, 1919 the daughter of Solomom and Thecla Massad. Her family moved to New london in 1927 where she attended St. Marys school then graduated from W.M.I. in New London. She was a former employee at SNET Co as a clerk. She married Walter Zizik of Norwich, Connecticut 6, 1956. Besides her large Lebanese family that she was devoted to and so proud of, Hilda was a volunteer and leader in many organizations. She was President of the Association for Retarded Children of Southeastern Connecticut and was an advocate for mentally challenged people. Hilda was an officer, chaplain, secretary and loyal member of the local NARFE as well as a long standing member of St. Anns Melkite Church in Waterford where she was a member of the St. Anns ladies society. A perfect day for Hilda was attending mass at St. Anns and then spending the day with family. Her love of cards and games were shared with many and passed on to her children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Walter Zizik and their beloved son Andrew Zizik. She also was the last surviving sibling in her family and we find comfort knowing she is having a rousing game of cards with Lucy, Dave, Rose and Nick as well as her other family members who have been waiting for her. She is survived by her son Joe Zizik of Oakdale, CT, his wife Roberta, grandchildren Melanie, Kristina and Rick Lenda and Justin Zizik and Angela Mercer. Also, son John Zizik of Newington, CT his wife Kathy and grandchildren Kyle, Kevin and Brian. She has two great grandchildren, Ricky and Lily Lenda. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, all who she loved dearly. A special thank you to Billieann who was her caregiver for 2 years. Lastly, to her new family at Fountain View. Thank you for the care and compassion shown to Hilda in her final year. Your concern and grief at her passing has touched us all. Obituary: ZITOMER. Fred Zitomer, 83, of Windsor, beloved husband of Stephanie-Anne (Fowler) Zitomer passed away , 7, 2017 at MidState Medical , Meriden. Born 19, 1933 in Chicago, IL son of the late Jack and Rebecca (Woldow) Zitomer, he was raised in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Brooklyn Friends School in 1951. He was very active in sports, especially baseball, and had tryouts with the Boston Braves and New York Yankees. Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He received his BA in Chemistry from Park University, and his Masters and PhD in Analytical Chemistry from Kansas State University. Fred spent his career in the chemical industry, working for Dow Chemical in Michigan, Celanese Research in New Jersey, and the US Patent Office in Virginia. He raised his family in New Jersey, later moving to Virginia, and eventually retiring to Connecticut in 2004. In Fred’s free time he made innovative ceramics. Besides wife Stephanie-Anne, he is survived by two sons, Benjamin David Zitomer and his wife, Jenny of Brooklyn, NY; William Joseph Zitomer and wife, Rebecca of Wrentham, MA; two grandchildren, Michael Daniel Zitomer and Alexis Ray Zitomer. He was predeceased by son, Michael Aaron Zitomer, and brother, Daniel Zitomer. Family and friends will gather in Fred’s memory on , 15, 2017 from 12-2 PM at Carmon Windsor , 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor followed by burial with military honors in Palisado , Windsor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241. |
