Obituary: Gloria P. Zielinski (nee Palladino), a long-time resident of Cranford, New Jersey and Fredericksburg, Virginia, died peacefully at the home of her daughter in Fredericksburg on 28, 2015. She was 83 years old. Gloria was born in 1932 and she attended Benedictine Academy in Elizabeth, New Jersey as a scholarship student, graduating with honors. She was married for 23 years to Joseph E. Fitzgibbon, with whom she had six children, and for 10 years to Leonard Zielinski, both of whom predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her parents, Mary and Joseph Palladino, her brother Anthony Palladino, and her sister Alvina ("Dolly") Novello. Gloria is survived by her sister, Marie ("Honey") Eller (John) of Hillside, New Jersey; her six children, Timothy Fitzgibbon (Janice) of McLean, Virginia, Joseph Fitzgibbon (Peggy) of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Nancy Talmage (Joseph) of Monroe, Connecticut, Kenneth Fitzgibbon (Jill) of West Chester, Pennsylvania, Susan Klaczynski (John) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Patricia Scharf (Paul) of Essex Junction, Vermont; her 13 grandchildren, Molly Fitzgibbon Schoener (Tom), Lucy, Holly, Colin, Cathryn and Connor Fitzgibbon, Matthew and Alex Talmage, Julia, Brianna, and Michael Klaczynski, and Lucas and Eric Scharf; and her newly arrived great-grandchild, Dean Schoener. Gloria truly was a Renaissance woman. She was a joyful pianist, an enthusiastic and creative painter, a dear and loyal friend, and a hardworking and dedicated employee of Exxon for over 20 years. She loved crafts, and in her gifted hands sea shells changed to flowers, stones turned into jewelry, and simple boxes became decorative keepsakes. Gloria was also an enormously determined and resilient woman, for whom any adversity was a quiet and personal challenge and a measure of character. But most important of all, she was a strong and loving mother, who raised her children by example and strength of heart. Nothing made her happier than to be surrounded by her children and grandchildren, and nothing gave them greater joy than to be with her. Two days before she passed, she presided over Thanksgiving dinner with three dozen family members and was thrilled to meet and hold her great-grandson for the first time. The stars now have a brighter "Glo" for all of us, and the part of the world that she touched is a kinder and gentler place for the love she has left behind. Mission accomplished, Grandma Glo, rest in peace. Visitation will be evening, 20, at Mullins and Thompson , 1621 Jefferson Davis Highway, Fredericksburg, Virginia, and a memorial mass will be held at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, 1009 Stafford Avenue, in Fredericksburg on , 21 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Gloria's name to the Kessler Institute in West Orange, New Jersey (https://give.kesslerfoundation.org/donate), where we witnessed small miracles every day during Gloria's stay in 2010. |
