Obituary: Glen “Zeke†Zimmerman It’s a grave sense of loss that we announce the passing of Glenâ€Zeke†Robinson Zimmerman. Glen was born on 23, 1922 in Lehi, Utah to Adella and Steven Zimmerman. Glen grew up in Eureka and Lehi and graduated from Lehi High School. His athletic years started there. He played football, tennis, and was a cheerleader during basketball season. For a short while, he worked in the Merkur Mines then moved on to school where he attended a short time at both BYU and Cedar City. Zeke then transferred to Utah State where he also played football. When the war broke out in 1942, he joined the US Marines and served for 4 years as a 2nd Lieutenant and then Captain. Part of his time was served in Hawaii in the Military Police. the war, he returned to Utah State to finish his teaching degree and play football, graduating in 1947. Zeke is a true “blue†Aggie. He supported the school’s Alumni Scholarship Program and athletics. His education continued to earn a Master’s Degree and then his Doctorate. Also in 1947, he married Lucille Smith from Ogden. She was the sister to one of the fraternity brothers. moved to Mt. Pleasant for his first year of teaching and to coach football at the high school. The next year they moved to Orem to teach and coach at the beloved Lincoln High School. Here is where he would start a career to help mold and change the lives for good for so many kids. When Orem Jr. High was built, he took the position of vice-principal. Mr. Zimmerman was a firm but fair man. He demanded respect, and for that he gave a lot. He developed and ran a successful program for boys that seemed to find trouble. Glen always had several things going on at once, during the summers he worked for the forest service and for years arbitrated and refereed basketball games for the Northwest Division. Glen was elected to the Orem City council where he served terms for 12 years. He was the advocate to have the recreation center built, now honored for. He helped get many projects done, one of them included getting cars for the police force. Zeke and Lucy enjoyed traveling to places like Italy, Greece, the Panama Canal, the Mediterranean, and the Caribbean. He was a fisherman and enjoyed golfing with his buddies, whom all but one, have also passed on. He enjoyed watching his sons play sports and was a regular at the Orem Owls games. With the many positions he held the ones of Husband, Father, and Grandfather were his most important. He loved and adored his wife, four children, and grandchildren. Glen is survived by his wife, Lucille Zimmerman, Craig (Zeke) and DeLoa Zimmerman, Blake (Zeke) and Connie Zimmerman, Jill Zimmerman and Nancy and Craig Pierce. Glen and Lucille have 12 grandchildren Candi, Marty, Carrie, Ty, Joshua, Brooke, Jamie, Bradley, Natalie, Michelle, Nichole, and Bret, as well as 14 great grandchildren and sister Donna Clark. He was preceded in passing by his parents, and brother Rex Zimmerman. Heart felt thank you to the loving staff of the Orem Beehive and Gentle for the love and care they gave Dad this past five months. The family would also like to thank Dr. Marshall Willis and William Alward. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the School of Graduate Studies Scholarship Development Office in Logan, Utah. services will be held on , Oct 3, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Sharon Stake Chapel, 575 South 800 East in Orem, Utah. A viewing will be held , 2, 2009 from 6-8 pm at the Walker Sanderson , 646 East 800 North Orem, Utah and morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Obituary: Glena Paulsen Zielke left this earth and returned with honor for a glorious reunion on 24, 2014, just a few months after her 90th birthday. She was a beautiful and classy lady and an eternal optimist whose mantra was, Life is good... and it gets better every day. She shared her cheery disposition with all and we always walked a little taller after spending time with her. Glena was born on 12, 1924 in Orangeville, UT. She was the oldest of six children born to Glen Ferril and Ardis Julia Paulsen. She was raised in Ephraim, UT, and married Earl Carlyle Stansfield on 27, 1940. eventually settled in Midvale, UT to raise their four children. Following a divorce, she met and married the love of her life, Paul Fredrick Zielke on 2, 1955. soon moved to Coloma, MI where they had two more children. There Glena became mother to a large blended family of seven children adding Pauls son from his previous marriage. raising their children, Glena and Paul moved back to Midvale, UT so she could be close to her family; in particular, her beloved sister Elaine. A woman of many talents, Glena was a great cook who ran a well-organized home. Even when the family struggled early on to get by, Glena ensured there was always plenty of food for the many guests who would come by for dinner. Music was also her talent and passion and it filled her home. She conducted the singing at church and she sang like an angel. A marvelous teacher, perhaps her greatest lesson was that she loved unconditionally and lived to serve others. Among her favorite church callings was being a Temple Worker at the LDS Jordan River Temple and a tour guide at Temple Square. Undoubtedly, Glenas greatest joy was her large family which includes 144 children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and their spouses - all of whom count themselves blessed to be hers. Glena is survived by her seven children: Julia Hogan (Dennis), Marilyn Walldorf (Ted), Steven Stansfield (Joanne), John Zielke (Karen), Colonel Randell Stansfield (Kenra), David Zielke (Cindy), and Anne Edwards. services will be at 1:00 pm, , 29, 2014 at Millcreek 9th Ward, 420 East 4200 South. The viewing will held at 11:30 to 12:45 prior to the funeral. The entombment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband. |
