Obituary: HERNANDO UBY ZUBELDIA Hernando Nando Zubeldia had a heart of a champion and was known for his zest for life and loved experiencing new adventures. Every time Nando would walk into the room he would light up the room with his mere presence. He enjoyed water skiing and frequently visiting the coast. He dearly loved his family, friends, co-workers, and medical staff. Hernando Nando Zubeldia was born on 24, 1956 in Pecos, Texas to Herminia Herrera Casillas of Pecos, Texas and Federico Zubeldia of Mexico City, Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife Donna Zubeldia of Granite Shoals, Texas whom he married on 30, 2015. Donna stood by her husband, loved and graciously cared for him until his last breath during his fight with ALS. Nando is also survived by his daughter Consuelo Zubeldia and her soon to be husband Alex Flores of Hutto, Texas along with her mother Carolyn Salinas of Round Rock, Texas. He also has 3 step children Stephanie Carlson of Granite Shoals, Texas, Becca Sundberg of Granite Shoals, Texas, and Stephen Bates of San Diego, California. Nando is survived by his siblings Grace Hill and her husband Dean of Willow, Alaska, Javier Zubeldia and his wife Ana of Chino, California, Sergio Zubeldia and his wife Anita of Pecos, Texas, Virginia Garcia and her husband Alex of Plano, Texas, Blanca Roman and her husband Louie of Pecos, Texas, and Joseph Rothman of Houston, Texas. He also has numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren that all loved and enjoyed spending time with Nando. Nando attended Pecos High School, and shortly after graduation in Sept of 1977 he joined the Pennzoil Sulfur where he worked for 21 years. While at Pennzoil he served as a Drilling Supervisor for 14 of those years. Nando resided in Carlsbad, New Mexico from 1981-1999 with his family. In 1999 Nando relocated his wife and daughter to the Austin area where he joined the Pedernales Electric Cooperation (PEC) in Cedar Park, Texas where he served as an Operator II for 17 years until he was forced into retirement as a result of his ALS diagnosis. For 5 years of his life, Nando joined and was an active member of the Bible Study Fellowship International in Austin and Round Rock where he would go out and minister the word of God to others in need. As an active member of this ministry, Nando would often spend his free time feeding and clothing the homeless. He felt a calling on his life to spread the Gospel even though during his last year in service with this ministry he was in a wheelchair and could barely stay for a full bible study lesson. Nando was a true fighter and warrior for Jesus in his latter days even as he fought his illness. Every person that would visit him would hear his testimony as he would minister the word of God. His favorite scripture he lived by is Colossians 3:17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. Services will be held at the Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills home in Austin, Texas. There will be a public viewing on 24th from 5-9pm. services will then be held on 25th at 10am followed by his burial where he will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden Capital Parks in Pflugerville, Texas. His wife requests that donations be made on his behalf to the ALS Association Texas Chapter (alstexas.org). Obituary: Ambrose (Andy) Domonic Zubel passed away peacefully on 7, 2010 at the age of 89 in Houston, Texas. He was born on 13, 1921 in Wheeling, West Virginia where he discovered his life-long passion for football. At Wheeling High School he lettered in football all four years, was All-State two years and captained the senior team. While a freshman at West Virginia University, where he was captain of the undefeated freshman football team, he enlisted in the United States Navy immediately after Pearl Harbor. He served until 1946 attaining the rank of Aviation Machinist Mechanic 3rd Class. the Navy he returned to WVU where he completed his education and continued his football career. He proudly played in the WVU victory over UTEP in the 1949 Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas. At WVU he received a Bachelors degree in Physical Education in 1950 and Masters Degree in 1952. In 1950 he married the love of his life, Phyllis Beth Mills. Shortly after being wed the couple moved to Chester, WV, where he was Head Coach of the Chester High School football and baseball teams until 1953. In 1954 he began his college football coaching career as Line Coach for Harold Lahar at Colgate University in New York. three years at Colgate he and Phyllis moved to Houston, Texas where Andy continued to coach football as the University Of Houston Line Coach from 1957-1961. Beginning in 1962, he joined the Physical Education Department at the University of Houston and retired as Professor Emeritus in 1986. Throughout his professional career he touched, counseled, guided and subsequently improved countless lives with his steady, sometimes almost relentless, coaching, teaching, supervision of student teachers, Director of the Required Program and writing of textbooks. During his retirement, he was lovingly known as the Sheriff of his neighborhood because he was always aware of what was going on and always seemed to be in the right place at the right time to help his neighbors through the trials of life both great and small. In 1994 he became a grandfather and the great coach became Papa who continued to teach, guide and love his grandchildren Paige and Zach. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis, his son Michael and wife Eva, his grandchildren Zach and Paige all of Houston and his sister, Lottie Monteleone of Wheeling WV. He is preceded in death by his parents Walter and Sophia Kobialka Zubel, and siblings Virginia, Frank, Fifi, Helen, Josephine, Mary, and Katherine. Friends are invited to visitation with the family from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, , 10, 2010 at Earthmans , 6700 Ferris, Bellaire, TX. Mass will be held 10:00 am, , 11, 2010 at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, TX. Burial will follow at Memorial Oaks with full military honors. |
