Obituary: David Allyn (Davy) Zimmerman, 62, of Echo, Oregon passed away 4th, 2014 after a battle with cancer. He is survived by his parents J. David and Helen Zimmerman of Carson, Washington, former wife Tami Canales of Portland, children Jeremy Zimmerman and Kara Zimmerman, both of Gresham, and Lacy Moyer of Milwaukie, grandchildren Lucy Zimmerman, Zachary Zimmerman, and Daniel and Carter Moyer, long-time companion Maureen Schuchardt, and sisters Laura Garcia of Somerville, Massachusetts, Ann Dunham of Stevenson, Washington, and Lynn Scammon of Wibaux, Montana. A burial service with military honors was held at Willamette Veterans on 11th. Davy attended Portland Christian High School and Centennial High School in Gresham, Oregon. He served in the US Army in Nuremburg, Germany as a member of the missile corps. a medical discharge, he acquired mechanical expertise in a number of areas including motorcycle repair and gun restoration. Recently he was awarded a patent for a device that improves the operation of semi-automatic rifles and handguns. Davy loved dogs and horses, and they loved him. He was also partial to his guitar, sixties pop music, motorcycles, fishing, camping, and target practice with his pellet gun. He seemed most at home amid the dense forests and beautiful streams of the Cascade Mountains. Those close to him knew that Davy also had a contemplative side. He read widely and reflected deeply about the issues of the day and the larger questions of lifes origin and purpose. Included here is a poem he learned by heart as a teenager and could still recite from memory decades later. To know that is, in many ways, to know him. We believe that our Davy, though absent from the body, is at home with the Lord, experiencing the peace and joy that often eluded him in this life. We want to thank those who have already comforted us with their prayers and encouragement, and we invite you to add to this site any thoughts, messages, or stories you would like to share. Two thousand! And wholl make it three? Three thousand, once; three thousand, twice, And going and gone, said he. The people cheered, but some of them cried, We do not quite understand. What changed its worth? Swift came the reply: The touch of the Masters hand. And many a man with life out of tune, And battered and scarred with sin, Is auctioned cheap to the thoughtless crowd Much like the old violin. A mess of pottage, a glass of wine, A game — and he travels on. He is going once, and going twice, Hes going and almost gone.
