Obituary: Salvatore ‘Sal Zuccaro, age 85, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, passed away evening, 5, 2014, peacefully in his home, with his daughter, Cathy by his side, after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Salvatore was born in Brooklyn, NY to parents of Italian decent, the late Stephen and Catherine Zuccaro, on 5, 1929. Salvatore is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Accursia (Gussie) Zuccaro, who passed away on 29, 2008 and brothers, Joseph Zuccaro, of East Meadow, Long Island, NY and Philip Zuccaro of Brooklyn, NY. Sal was a long time resident of Fort Walton Beach. He retired at Eglin AFB, as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, after 20 years of service and decided to stay in the beautiful area he had grown to love. Sal had a passion for fishing and was a regular at the Okaloosa Island Pier for most of his years living in Fort Walton. Sal worked civil service for several years after retirement from the Air Force, but his most noteworthy, after-retirement job, was as a chef at Perris Italian Restaurant, where he joyfully worked for almost 15 years. Sal was also a very active member of the local Joseph B. Franzalia Sons of Italy Lodge for many, many years, using his impressive cooking skills to help with pasta nights, Festa Italiana celebrations, charity golf tournaments, and many other activities of the lodge. Many of Sals closest friends are fellow members of the Sons of Italy Lodge, where he enjoyed many fun and charitable activities with these wonderful friends. Sal is survived by his two daughters and son-in-laws, Cathy and Jim Wookey of San Diego, CA and Stephanie Zuccaro and Harlan Griswold of Martinez, CA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michelle Wookey of Flagstaff, AZ, Scott Wookey of San Diego, CA and Erika, Chloe, and Sierra Griswold of Martinez, CA. Salvatores surviving brothers and sister-in-laws are Chris and Carol Zuccaro of Whitestown, Indiana, Anthony and Billie Zuccaro of Broomfield, Colorado, and Beatrice Zuccaro of East Meadow, Long Island, NY. The family would like to acknowledge and thank Sals wonderful nurses and doctors in the area, throughout his illness, especially Emerald Coast Cancer and Covenant Hospice. A memorial mass will be held for Sal on , 17, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church of Fort Walton Beach. A reception will follow at the Sons of Italy Lodge on 808 South Dr, Fort Walton Beach. Later that day a private ceremony will be held at Beal Memorial . In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making donations on Sals behalf to the Wounded Warrior Project. Donations may be mailed to the Sons of Italy Lodge, 808 South Dr., Fort Walton Beach, FL 32547. Other favorite charities of Sals and his family include St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital www.stjude.org and the Childrens Hemiplegic and Stroke Association at www.chasa.org, of which donations can be made online, with a memorial to Sal duly noted.
