Obituary: Mr. Yang Shyh-Rong was born on 5th, 1940 in Yang-Zi Village, Xin-Hua District, Tainan . He went to be with the Lord at the age of 77. Being the only son of the family, he received much love from his parents. Growing up in the countryside of Taiwan, he was candid, forthright, and energetic. In 1963, he received a Bachelors degree in Animal Husbandry from National Taiwan University. He then studied abroad traveling to Guelph, Ontario, Canada in 1966. In 1969, his first son, Roger, was born while he studied at Guelph University. There he received his first Masters degree in Population Genetics. At the time of his graduation, jobs utilizing his degree were scarce. Since he did quite well in computer related courses, his professor at Guelph University recommended Shyh-Rong pursue the computer sciences. He then took his new family of three to Pullman, Washington where he studied the science of computer programming at Washington State University. His second son, Yeely, was born in Pullman in 1970 during his studies. He eventually obtained another Masters degree, this time in Computer Science. With this final degree, he became a professional computer programmer and he eventually settled with his family of four in Chicago, Illinois until his sons left for college. Shyh-Rong was blessed during his entire life. Being the only son of two very kind parents, he received unconditional love especially from his mother. When he went to study abroad, his mother couldn stop crying for first three months because she missed her son dearly. When Shyh-Rong settled in Chicago, his mother, even though she was illiterate, bravely traveled alone to Chicago in order to see her beloved son. Although she never attended school, she possessed great wisdom that one can only obtain from a laborious life. Shyh-Rong was a lucky one as she imparted this wisdom to him. His life was always surrounded by good women (laugh) and they all treated him well. God loved him for everything he was able to accomplish in life and God was always gracious to him. Only the cancer cells in his lung were mean to him eventually taking away his life. While in Canada, his academic advisor treated Shyh-Rong as his own son. His professor helped him find a suitable dormitory, open bank accounts, and even took him to horse-racing during the breaks. The advisor introduced Shyh-Rong to other professors and other labs which helped him learn to establish good working relationship back then. He would use this talent later in life for his jobs and for his work with God. During his 20 year stay in Chicago, God called Shyh-Rong to serve him although Shyh-Rong was initially resistant. He co-labored with Elder Chen Ying-Che, Pastor Zhang Ya-Hui, Brother Hsu Zheng-Zhi, and Sister Zhuo Ming-Mei, to found and start a new church while learning to evangelize. Chicago, Shyh-Rong moved to Houston, Texas taking advantage of an opportunity to purchase a motel business; he decided to retire from the computer programming field. Almost like a stroke of fate, the side door of the motel was facing the Southern Evangelical Formorsan Church. Both this church along with the church he helped start in Chicago were affiliated with the Evangelical Formorsan Church. Naturally he joined the worship ministries and became involved with other services of this church. He was called a co-worker of the church. Shyh-Rong was glad to be used by God given the proximity of the church and the motel. Whenever there was a special church event, Shyh-Rong would open his property so the church members could utilize the motel premises. One time a newly arrived pastor needed a place to stay. Shyh-Rong generously offered him to stay in a room at his motel. God rewarded him for his generosity as business bloomed with the pastor residing at the motel. This was an example of how Shyh-Rongs spiritual life received nurturing from God. Indeed Gods blessings abounded while he was in Texas. In 2000, Shyh-Rong finally retired and decided to move to San Diego, California, a beautiful place of sunshine and bliss. He had come to this place in order to enjoy Gods grace and great deeds and to continue his spiritual devotion. Shyh-Rong lived a very disciplined life. He did not drink nor smoke. He avoided unhealthy food. He even consumed one lemon every day. His life was all about exercise. He consistently swam, jogged and played all kind of sports his entire life. He even believed that exercise would cure anything and so he religiously did his morning exercises every day. His last sport was table tennis and he played until the back pain from the cancer cells kept him home. He was kind-spirited and did not keep a record of wrongs. He was forthright and lively but his liveliness made him maybe loud at times. The children of his friends gave him the nickname The Loud Guy. He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke with his family and friends. Shyh-Rongs other passion in life was his garden. Being generous by nature, he shared the fruits of his gardening with everyone he met. He also had an amazing memory and it was most evident when he played Bridge with his friends. It was unbelievable how accurate he was at predicting the cards in the other players hands. Midway through his fight with lung cancer, he still wanted to play Bridge even though the cancer had spread to his brain. Finally, Shyh-Rong had great love in serving God and church and was motivated with all his heart to spread the gospel. One year he went back to Taiwan for short-term missions. The work involved giving testimonies about God. During the mission work, he would talk non-stop about Gods love and grace. He eventually took on the position of Deacon.
