Obituary: Agnes (Hillstead) Young born 11, 1925 passed from this life with her family at her bedside on May 20, 2017 at the age of 91. She was predeceased by her husband Brigadier General James J Young (ret.), former Dean of the UT Medical School at San Antonio. Born in Sedro-Woolley, Washington to Edith and Ernest Hillstead, she was the oldest of three children, predeceased by sister Helen and brother Charles. graduated from Hoquiam High School in Washington State in 1943 followed by nursing school in Olympia, Washington. She then served in the Army Nurse Corps until 1949 as a Lieutenant assigned to Brooke Army Hospital , Fort Sam Houston and later as a flight nurse in the Army Air Corps at Randolph AFB, Texas. While at Fort Sam she met the love of her life, Lt. Jim Young, her future husband of 62 years. As an Army wife she enjoyed 36 years of Jims military assignments in the U.S., as well as Germany and Taiwan. embodied the grace and strength notable of military wives enduring the challenges of raising children while Jim served several overseas tours of duty. She was active in the Army Wives Club and later resumed nursing with The American Red Cross. Subsequent to Jims retirement from the Army they returned home to San Antonio. Often described as an energizer bunny, enjoyed participating in the pursuits of her children and grandchildren. She and husband Jim enjoyed many worldwide trips with friends, including a return to her fathers home village in Norway reuniting with relatives. She remained active with friends and enjoyed walking, aqua exercising and participating in a book club into her final months. and Jim cherished their numerous lifelong friendships. is survived by her sons, Mike, Steve, Patrick and daughter, Mary (Young) Sippell; daughters-in-law, Cathy and Barbara; son-in-law, John Sippell; grandchildren, Becky, Kristen, Nicole and Margeaux; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Kendra and Natalie ; grandsons-in-law, Justin Bellows and Steve Semore. Services will be held at Sunset Memorial Chapel, visitation 9am, Memorial Services 10am and Interment at 11am at Ft Sam Houston National on , May 27, 2017.
