Obituary: Marvin Yost, 86, of Dallas passed away , 13, 2015 due to complications of Multiple Myeloma. He passed quietly and peacefully surrounded by his family. Born in 1928, Marvin grew up in Buffalo, New York. He graduated from the University of Buffalo with a degree in Business. serving in the Korean War, he moved to Syracuse, New York where he met the love of his life, Lois Rosenberg . married in 1956 and daughter, Cindie, was born one year later. Marvin had a long and successful career, working his way up through the ranks at Dey Brothers, a division of Allied Stores. When offered a promotion to move to Dallas, Texas, Marvin jumped at the opportunity to get out of the snow and cold of Syracuse. He was Vice President and General Merchandise Manager at Titche-Gotttinger stores, which was later merged with Joskes. Marvin left Joskes in 1976 to join Berkline Corporation as Vice President and National Sales Manager. It was with Berkline where he had the pleasure to work with a wonderful group of salesmen he fondly named The Magnificent Seven. He retired from Berkline in 1996. Marvin and Lois shared a passion for travel and met new friends on every trip. He took many trips with his Berkline family, sailed on twenty one cruises and loved his annual Christmas trips with his family. He took pride in his status as a Million Miler with American Airlines. Marvin enjoyed playing golf and tennis and watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys, for which he held season tickets for many years. Marvin was preceded in death by parents, Ben & Ruth Yost, brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Arielle Yost, and his beloved wife, Lois. Pops, as he was fondly called, loved his grandchildren, Stephen and wife Renee, Amy and Rebecca Kurtz. held a deep respect for his knowledge, always believing that Pops was the smartest man they knew. Marvin is also survived by daughter and son-in-law, Cindie and David Kurtz. Special thanks to his long time caregiver, Mary Gardner. Mary promised Lois that she would take care of Marvin, which she did lovingly till the very end. Graveside services were held , 16th, at Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas. Obituary: Dr. Michael Yost, Jr. died May 17, 2014, in San Antonio, Texas. Born 10, 1933, in Glendora, New Jersey, he was the only child of Michael Peter Yost and Regina Theresa Harbison Yost. Dr. Yost was a university administrator, educator, statistician, and consultant. From 1971 to 1997 he was at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, and held the positions of Assistant to the President, Director of Institutional Research, and Professor. Michael spent most of his childhood years in southern New Jersey about ten miles east of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and attended primary and secondary schools there. Michael also spent many happy days with his family at the shore near Cape May, New Jersey, at the very southern tip of the state, on the Delaware Bay, where he was an avid boater and strong swimmer and developed an interest in sailing. high school Michael served four years in the United States Air Force. Upon receiving his honorable discharge from the service in of 1956, he completed his undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate degrees. Michael earned his bachelors degree (B.A., zoology) in 2 ½ years at Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory, North Carolina, his masters degree (M.Ed., physics) at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park campus, in State , Pennsylvania, and his doctorate (Ph.D., applied multivariate statistics) at Nova University, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. During his professional career, he taught and was a department chairman in schools and colleges in North Carolina, Florida, and New Jersey. In 1967, Michael was a Smithsonian Research Fellow in Washington, D.C. In 1970 he accepted a position as a research associate at UMREL (Upper Midwest Regional Educational Laboratory), a think tank funded by the U.S. Department of Education in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota. While there he received a Merit Award for Outstanding Contributions to Education by Behavioral Research Laboratories. In 1971 he accepted a faculty position at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, as a Professor of Education. In 1982 Michael was asked to serve as the Assistant to the President and Director of Institutional Research at Trinity, a position which he held until he retired in of 1997. At the time of his death, Dr. Yost was a Professor Emeritus at Trinity. Dr. Yost was the author and co-author of several books and over 150 articles which dealt with methodological and statistical applications which appeared in numerous juried journals. He made numerous professional presentations in the United States and in Europe and was also a consultant to several universities and school districts and a number of corporations, law firms, banks, businesses, cities, and city entities. Michael was obviously a man of many talents. Besides being blessed with a superb intellect, he was a gifted athlete, a gourmet cook (known for his homemade bread and special desserts), and a master craftsman in woodworking. In 1976-1977 he built a 25-ft. trimaran (multihull sailboat) which he launched and kept at Canyon Lake, Texas. He especially enjoyed traveling, sailing, golfing, cooking, spending time with friends, trips to Paris, and his black Labrador Retrievers. retirement, Michael enjoyed dividing his time between San Antonio, Texas, and Santa Barbara, California. His greatest pleasure was enjoying the beach, the harbor, the mountains, and the beautiful sunsets in sunny Southern California with his wife Elizabeth.
