Obituary: York, Lester- age 90 of Townsend went to be with the Lord , 13, 2014. He was retired from General Motors, a member of the Church of The Cove in Wears Valley, Tennessee and a WWII veteran. His faith remained an abiding source of strength and pleasure to him even in his last days. He enjoyed discussing Bible topics, listening to hymns as a nightly ritual with his wife before bed. He was preceded in death by son, Kenneth Ray York. Survived by wife, Helen York; children, Alvin (Julia), James (Sandra), Sheree (Robert) York; 3 step-children, Cindy Rickus, Charles Ake, Carl (Tracy) Ake; grandchildren Lisa, David, Charles, Timothy, Randy, Jennifer and Lori; step-grandchildren, Kristy, Wil, Carl Jr., Meagan, and several great grandchildren. Obituary: York, Larry Renford, age 74, of the Karns Community, passed away suddenly on , 8th, 2014. He was a member of the West End Church of Christ. Larry was a graduate of Bearden High School, Class of 1957 and from The University of Tennessee, 1961. He was a veteran of the United States Army. During his life, Larry was a friend and promoter of mission work in South Africa for the Churches of Christ. He was a member of the Knoxville Metropolitan Planning Commission and past president of Karns Community Club. Larry served many as their local Allstate agent. He never met a stranger. Larry gave his all everyday for God, Family, Friends, and the Community. He is preceded in death by parents, Phocian and Gladys York. He is survived by his wife Carolyn York, his daughter, Cammie York and three Scottish Terriers, family Frank and Jean Huber, Polly Huber, Bruce Jansen, Chip and Jessica Huber, Darcy Huber, Bruce Jansen II., and by a host of other family members and friends. Obituary: View Video Tribute View Webcast Kenneth Carlton York, 81, retired Spring Hill City Manager, died , 19, 2015 at his residence on Camellia Drive. services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols with Eddie Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born 16, 1934 in Isabella, TN, he was the son of the late Samuel Carlton York and the late Ida Lou Bramlett. He graduated from Duck Town High School in 1950. Joining the Army at age 18, Ken emerged a decorated Veteran after serving in the Korean War. He fought in the Battle of Pork Chop Hill. Ken then continued his education at the University of Tennessee and later earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma. During his career in Public Service he served as Executive Director of Claxton Chamber of Commerce; Director of Industrial Development in Roane , TN; Public Administrator in Onancock, VA and Rockwood, TN; City Manager of Fort Oglethorpe, GA and Belmont, NC; City Administrator in Walker , GA and retired after 9 years as City Manager of Spring Hill, TN. During his tenure in Spring Hill the city experienced significant growth and laid the foundation for future development. He served on the City of Columbia Civil Service Board from 2008 until 2014. Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Sue Forrester York, whom he married 5, 2005; children, Randy (Dena) York of Waco, TX, Wanda (David) Campbell and Barbara Kelley (Steve Pursley), both of Fort Oglethorpe, GA; Sues children, Bill Tubville and Michael (Elizabeth) Tubville, both of Columbia; Jonathan Tubville of Nashville; thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; special friends, Cathy Garner, Diane Bishop, Nancy Scott, Georgia McCaleb; and special niece, Patricia Hardin. Active pallbearers will be Tommy Logue, Marc Jackson, Jackie Glenn, Kevin Glenn, Jeff Foster, and Jim Swindle. Honorary pallbearers will include Tommy Mays, Stan Myatt, and Charlie Schoenbrodt. |
