Obituary: Walter M. Youngblood, 78, Kansas City, MO, passed away 7, 2015. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by memorial service 11:00 a.m. , 18, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman , 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO. Walter was the seventh child born to the union of Robert Grover Youngblood and Beaulah Kennedy in Coolidge, Texas on 24, 1937. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Doris Howell Youngblood, his brothers J.C. and Freddie Lee Youngblood, and Harold, Frank, and Joe Liggins. Walter relocated from Mexia, Texas with his mother and siblings to Kansas City, Kansas. The family joined his Aunt Dura Lee and Uncle George Harris and their six children, one of whom survives him, Clemmie Ward of Landover, MD. Walter graduated in 1956 from Sumner High School and later served in the USAF until 1959. In 1962, Walter married Audrey Johnson. The marriage ended in divorce, but they later became dear friends. Walter married again, enjoying 34 years of loving friendship and companionship with Doris. Walter was employed at Kansas City Power and Light, retiring in 2001 after more than 30 years of service. He co-founded and was President of The Musketeers Civic Group whose mission is to serve the community through projects aimed at bettering the city with emphasis on the elderly and youth populations. Walter was a man of few words. He was gentle yet direct with his children. He was very well read but never displayed his knowledge in an offensive or forceful way. He enjoyed sports, crossword puzzles, and creating gourmet meals. Walter is survived by: his brothers Ralph Youngblood (Dorothy) and J.E. Youngblood (Eulah); sisters Lenora Smith, Venora Isom (Wardell), Malissie Roberts, and Billie Jean Mills; aunt Eddie Lee Cooper; daughters Vickie McGill (George) and Stephanie Chick (Don); sons Michael Howell, Derek Youngblood, Walter Youngblood, Michael Youngblood, and Michael Brown; seven grandchildren: Derrick Wooten, Tiawana Butts, John Howell, Jason Howell, Jennifer Howell, Eric Chick, and Channelle Lewis; seven great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. |

Obituary: Doris Faye Youngblood, 71, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away 15, 2012. Memorial services will be held 4:00 p.m. , 24, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman , 10507 Holmes Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice House, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 100, Kansas City, Missouri 64114. Doris was born to the union of K.C. and Alberta E. Switzer in Kansas City, Missouri on 26, 1940. Doris was preceded in death by both parents, her brother Kenneth C. Switzer and nephew William C. Switzer. Doris attended Manuel High School and graduated class valedictorian in 1959. She began her nursing training at Kansas City School of General Hospital and graduated in 1962. She later completed her nurse anesthetist training and became a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in 1967. 41 years in nursing, Doris retired in 2008 from Research Medical . her retirement, Doris worked as a co-manager at Top Drawer resale shop where proceeds benefit the Kansas City Hospice House. Her post-retirement career was one of the most rewarding and fulfilling times in her life. Doris was married to Walter Youngblood and their loving and devoted marriage lasted for 34 years. were best friends and created a home filled with warmth, laughter and generosity. Doris was an original. She had an impeccable sense of style, an abundance of charm and charisma, and an uncommon wittiness that was both disarming and endearing. Doris was the life of the party and the lifeblood of her large extended family. Doris was generous to a fault and welcomed everyone into her orbit. People were easily drawn to her because of her strength and selflessness. The Duchess will be greatly missed. Doris leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband Walter M.
