Obituary: MYRON JOSEPH YOCHIM died in Metairie, LA at age 63 on , 8, 2016, to join in Heaven his beloved parents Raymond A. Yochim, Sr. and Jacqueline Ray Yochim. He leaves behind his brothers, Ray Jr. and Craig Yochim, his sister Diane Whitman (Wayne), nieces Leigh (Jeff) and Jaclyn, his nephew Greg, and great-niece Rayleigh. Myron was born at Baptist Hospital in New Orleans on 24, 1952. He was a graduate of St. Gabriel School in Gentilly Woods, Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie and a 1974 graduate of Loyola University in New Orleans, where he earned a B.A. degree. At Rummel he was a member of the chorus and baseball team. As a senior, he was the speediest member of the 1970 State Champion track team. While attending Loyola, Myron was a brother in the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity and he also lettered in baseball and track. He also played for the New Orleans Blue Knights semi-pro football team for nine seasons, winning numerous championships in the Dixie Football League. graduating, he enlisted in the Navy’s Officer Candidate School at the Naval Station Newport in Newport, Rhode Island for a brief time and received a voluntary disenrollment with an honorable discharge. Myron was cherished by all who knew him, as a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend. His athletic ability, love of writing and playing music and his sweet soul will always be missed but forever remembered. Obituary: Athanassios Nicholas Yiannopoulos (“Thanassi” to his friends and “Yippy” to his students) passed on 1, 2017, surrounded by family. He was born on 13, 1928, in Thessaloniki, Greece, after his father Nicholas Lingas Yiannopoulos left a remote mountain hamlet in the southern Peloponnese to join the army and subsequently married Areti Albanos of Kozani. finishing law school with highest honors at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Athanassios trained to be an infantry reserve officer and interpreter. He eventually served as military secretary for the commander-in-chief, King Paul, before being honorably discharged in 1953. Immediately following, he entered the United States on a Fulbright scholarship to study law at the University of Chicago. receiving an LLM in 1954, he “fled the cold” to the welcoming sunshine at University of California Berkeley where he eventually earned a Doctorate of Laws. teaching abroad at the University of Cologne and receiving a second doctorate degree there, he began teaching law at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in 1959. Two decades and many stories later he moved to New Orleans and began teaching at Tulane University Law School and continued lecturing through 2016. Since 1969, he served as the yearly editor of West’s Pamphlet Edition of the Louisiana Civil Code and authored three volumes of the Louisiana Civil Law Treatise series. He also took great pride in establishing and directing multiple study-abroad programs in his native Greece. Athanassios is survived by his only daughter, Maria, and granddaughters Sophia and Christina Dooley; his first-born son, Nicholas and granddaughter Caroline; his third wife, Mirta Valdes, and their children Alexander (with wife Magda Galitou Yiannopoulos) and youngest son Philip. He is also survived by a sister in Greece, Aspasia Sougaris. The family would like to thank the professional and caring caregivers at Tulane Hospital, as well as his Baton Rouge physicians. Thanassi’s publications are numerous and the honors he received were many. An avid traveler, who had quite the green thumb and an angelic voice, Louis was the owner of Easton Nursery and was talented when it came to plants and flowers. Uncle of Jason A. Nunez. Great uncle of Dakota A. Nunez. Nephew of Alfred Al Serpas (M. Linda), Anna Yetta Bayer (Frank), and Vincent Yetta (Elaine). Also survived by his close friends; Tommy Ruiz, Javier Salmeron, and Terri Goldsmith, numerous cousins and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Service at the Garden of Memories , 4900 Airline Dr. Metairie, LA on , 26, 2014 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until service time.
