Obituary: In the end, it's the impact we make on other peoples lives that defines us when we're gone. Marion "Bud" Whitehead effected more people by the way he lived his life, than any other person. He lived his life by example; he was an excellent role model, a loving Husband and Father, a star of the Greatest Generation. First Class all the way! suffering a massive stroke, and never regaining consciousness, Bud passed away peacefully on , May 31, 2014, with his daughter, Buffie Megugorac at his side. At 94 years young, he still lived in his home with the help of daytime caregivers, Cecilia Penamante and Yolanda de la Torre, along with the loving care of his daughter. He lived his life with dignity and joy until the very end. Born 2, 1919 to parents, a Johnson Whitehead and Hervey Whitehead in the small town of Liverpool, Illinois. He took over as the "head of the family" early on. In the 8th Grade he started as a Hunting Guide, for money, as well as for food, to help his mother make ends meet for him and his two sisters. In 1943 he moved to California with his sisters. Shortly afterwards Enid Wilhelm-Stadler, Bud's sister, set Bud up with a "blind date", Billie Joanne Shaw. On their first (blind) date they went on a picnic to Lake Sherwood, where Bud swam up to Billie with a Water Lily in his mouth, and they fell in love. were married on 8th 1944 and were inseparable for 69 years until Billie passed away, at home, on 17, 2012. She was 87. During WWII Bud served in the Navy. He was stationed on the Island of Los Negros in the Admiralty Islands of the South Pacific. This is where he honed his skills as a machinist. the war, Bud started working at Bendix as a drill press operator, working his way up in the until he and a co-worker, Joe Dunlap, decided to start their own machine shop, Dunlap and Whitehead, Inc. working with a partner for a few years, Bud sold his share and ventured out on his own, forming Whitehead Inc., in the North end of the San Fernando Valley. He developed new technologies for engineering spindles with very little run out, eventually developing the spindles for the IBM hard drives that were sent to, and left on the moon. At the height of his career he had over 150 loyal and devoted employees. Many of whom ventured out on their own to become very successful machinists and business owners themselves. In 1969 Bud sold Whitehead Inc. to Ametek Inc. becoming Ametek \ Whitehead Division, Inc. which allowed him more free time to do the things he loved, hunting and fishing, and spending time with family and friends. In 1970 he moved his family to the beautiful city of San Buenaventura where they bought a house in the Ventura Keys, so he could boat and fish to his hearts content. Ventura is where they also met many wonderful lifelong friends. Their home was always the gathering place, friends and neighbors always stopping by. It was always filled with fun and laughter. In 1971 Bud retired allowing even more time to hunt and fish. He organized hunting trips to Wyoming and Canada to hunt elk, moose, and geese, some of the trips even involved hunting on horseback. He also joined a duck club in Los Banos, where he spent many hours hunting and telling stories with great friends. He was one of the founders of CIAC, Channel Islands Angling Club, and fished in their local Broadbill Tournaments, as well as tournaments in Hawaii. He fished for salmon in Alaska and grouper and yellow fin tuna in the Sea of Cortez. The many stories that came from those trips were endless, and best told by the many friends that were lucky enough to have gone hunting and fishing with him. He and Billie also loved to travel, cruising first class all over the world. would come home exhausted from all the shore excursions, with wonderful experiences to share. Bud even rode a camel at the Great Pyramids! Their favorite was the Black Sea, they actually went there twice. Everyone who knew him, loved him, and would agree that he was a kind, compassionate, generous, brilliant, fun loving man, and most of all a gentleman. He had a positive attitude and a love of life. There will be an empty spot in our world and our hearts, he will be missed by so many. He is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Buffie and David Megugorac, of Camarillo; and his sister, Enid Wilhelm-Stadler of LaQuinta. He was preceded in death by, as he would say, My Beautiful Wife, the Love of My Life, Billie Whitehead. Also preceding him in death was his sister, Maxine Preninger. To celebrate his fabulous 94 years there will be a "Celebration of Life" for Bud on , 21, 2014. For information please contact the family.
