Obituary: Our beloved Mom passed away on , 2, 2010. She was born in Sanger, Ca. on 11, 1915, to Albert and Grace Warner. Marian married Walter Weldon in 1934, together they ranched in Tollhouse and in the Sierras all of their married life until Walters passing in 1983. She then continued the ranching tradition with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ruth Page, and her husband Jerry, Margaret Carver of Nevada, and Bertie Berg and her husband Larry, also of Nevada; seven grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Eunice Weldon; and numerous nieces, and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at the Huntington Lake Cow Camp Cabin on , 11, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made to Nancy Hinds Hospice , 1416 West Twain Ave., Fresno, Ca. 93711. |

Obituary: Shortly after 12:00 A.M. on 7, 2015, Kathryne Katie Weldon, loving wife, mother of three, and grandmother of six passed away quietly in her home, surrounded by her family. She was born Kathryne Beach Clifton on 3, 1932, in Columbia, South Carolina. She led a full and rewarding life, was a joy to her parents, her family, her church and every organization she worked for. As a young girl Katie grew up on the beach at Virginia Beach, Virginia. During WWII the US Marines would practice assault landings over the beach and she would assist them in digging foxholes in the sand. At the age of 9 her father joined the war effort and took a job as an engineer to help the US Navy build a test station in the desert north of Mojave, California. The land was undeveloped and lacked housing, so she and her family lived in Willow Springs, east of highway 395 in a modest adobe house among a small community of cowboys and ranchers. There was a spring, a pool, tons of Joshua trees and sand, and not much more. Every day she rode a bus to school about an hour each way. For entertainment she watched cattle drives and roundups, and attended whooping, hollering BBQs with broiled beef and BBQ sauce. She came to love John Waynes western movies as well as caring for and riding her horse, a strawberry roan named Tippy. Horses and westerns became a lifelong love. When the Navy base was finished she and her family moved to China Lake where schools were close by. The family was featured in LIFE magazine in 1948 in an expose of "Rocket Town" as one of the first families to be a part of the laboratories developed in the desert. There Katie graduated from Burroughs High School and was among one of their first five graduating classes. called themselves the Fabulous Five and held reunions every five years. Following graduation, she attended Whittier and received a degree in chemistry, which led to a career in the formulation and testing of explosives and propellants for US Navy weapons. Katie was an adventurous spirit, and led a very active lifestyle. In her lifetime she climbed Mount Whitney twice and was an avid skier and tennis player. graduation she met Rodney Weldon through the local ski club, and married him. All of her children were born in the town of Ridgecrest, just adjacent to the Naval Base. nearly two decades of blowing sand, hot summers and cold winters, Katie and Rod moved to Ventura. She was an incredibly devoted mother who served various roles at her childrens schools including school nurse, playground supervisor, and PTA President. Deeply involved in Scouting, Katie served as Campfire Girls Leader and served a large role in the Boy Scouts of America for her children, and later her grandchildren at both the local and district level, earning a District Award of Merit. Two sons, and later two grandsons became Eagle Scouts. Katie loved to travel in their motorhome Charlie, and the family had many adventures camping across the countryside. Summers were also spent hiking in the Sierras, and lots of time at the beach here in Ventura. To help put her children through college, Katie obtained a teaching degree and taught math at Fillmore Elementary School and Ventura High School, where she ran the Math Lab. Katie also had a seat on the Math Council of Ventura Unified School District. She was very active in her P.E.O. Chapter FZ, serving leadership roles of all kinds. Katie also volunteered in several areas at her church, St. Pauls Episcopal, serving on the Vestry, ECW, Altar Guild, Daughters of the King, the Deanery and as Senior Warden. From 1992-2015 she also donated her time to Community Memorial Hospital in various positions including Pink Lady, Front Desk Receptionist, Treasurer of the Auxiliary, and President of the Auxiliary. Katie garnered many awards and commendations for her efforts. She was as busy in retirement as she was in her life and career, and enjoyed every minute of it. Katie also made time for her family, helping to raise her grandchildren, and stepping in to help whenever it was needed. She had endless drive and energy, a humble spirit with an honest and sincere way that endeared her to many. Katie was a great cook, famous in our family for making your favorite meal for your birthday, which usually included her famous southern fried chicken, spaghetti, enchiladas, and sometimes more than one of those if you couldn decide. She also made the famous family recipe: four layer torte birthday cake that was handed down to her from her mother. Her door was always open, her kitchen warm with love and a place was always open at her table. Katie loved her family dearly, gave without expectation, and found joy in mentoring and teaching. The cards, letters, and calls she received during her illness were a great joy to her. Katie is survived by her husband Rod; her children, Clif, Betty and John; her grandchildren, Daniel, David, Kathryne, Evan, Eric, and Hannah; her brother Maurice; and his children, Maurice, and Mary Ann. We thank God for the time we have had her in our lives. We will miss her dearly, but her spirit will live on in all the lives she touched. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the CMH Auxiliary, St Paul's Episcopal Church, or PEO Chapter FZ.
