Obituary: John Jack David Woodyard, 93, peacefully passed away , 7, 2017, at the William F. Green Veterans in Bay Minette. Born 18, 1924, in Mobile, Alabama, he was the son of the late George Gray Woodyard, Sr. and Mattie Mae Woodyard. Jack grew up in Calvert, Alabama, playing tricks on his older sister, while enjoying the antics of childhood and country life with his two younger siblings. He loved fishing, hunting, golf, cards, games, softball, bowling, and driving fast. graduating from Murphy High School, Jack studied at the University of Auburn until he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, becoming a veteran of WWII. He later continued his education at the University of Alabama, and declared himself to be a life-long Bama Fan. He regularly enjoyed watching them play, and just last weekend was cheering them on. When Jack met his love, Marion McIntyre Woodyard, he didn't let her get away. married on 19, 1950, at St. Pauls Chapel, in Mobile. lived in Calvert for many years, where he served as a US Postmaster, before permanently settling their family in Mobile. This year they proudly celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Working well into his 80s as a nighttime security guard, Jack was very active. He sadly dropped out of his bowling league at 91 due to his health. He a was a hard working, faithful and loyal husband. Regarding his energy and enthusiasm for life, he used to say, I never felt old till I got to be around 80! He rarely complained, and kept his youthful attitude, teasing and smiling right till the end. Jacks loving heart, sense of humor, resilience, and zest for life, will be deeply missed and well remembered by all who knew him. In the latter portion of his life, Jack grew in his faith and became a devoted Christian, praying daily on his knees for all of his family members by name. He regularly attended Luke 4:18 Fellowship and rarely missed a . His testimony is priceless. In his own words, For most of my life, I wanted to smoke or gamble, as much as I wanted to eat! But. Jesus took that away from me! He was amazed at what God had done in his heart and wanted all to know his Savior! Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Marion Woodyard; five daughters: Karen (Robert) Allen, Kathryn (Drew) Powell, Julie Mullen, Janet Wallen, and Marsha Hawkins; as well as eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; his brother, George Woodyar sister, Mary Ann Sumrall; and his nieces and nephews, all who treasure his memory. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Mae and George Gray Woodyard, Sr., and sister, Anita Stallings. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the nurses and staff at the William F. Green Veterans and Covenant Hospice, for their excellent care and support during his final days, and also to the host of friends who visited, encouraged, and made him smile. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. - 10 a.m., followed by a chapel service, at 10 a.m., on , 9, 2017 at Radney , officiated by Pastor Fred H. Wolfe. Burial will immediately follow at Spring Hill .
