Obituary: Marilena Henry Willoughby, age 94, of Smiths Station, AL passed away 1, 2016 at her home. services will be held at 2 p.m., 6, 2016 at Midway Baptist Church, Smiths Station, AL with Reverend Jeff Dravenstott and Reverend Wayne Ivey officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby, Phenix City, AL. The family will receive friends evening, 5, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. (EST) at the funeral home. Mrs. Willoughby was born 11, 1921 in Roanoke, AL to the late Winston D. Henry and Maggie Smith Pittman Henry. She was a charter member of Midway Baptist Church since 1970. Mrs. Willoughby was noted for all the cards and her faithfulness to the Lord, and to Midway Baptist Church. She retired from Cobb Hospital after a wonderful 18 year career as a nursing assistant and went on to continue her career as a caregiver with the Phenix City Department. Mrs. Willoughby was known far and wide as Mama Willoughby and her love of mankind was legendary. If you knew her, she has probably kissed your hand, sent you a birthday card, and made sure you knew about her wonderful Jesus. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Willoughby was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Joe Y. Willoughby; son, Larry Joe Joey Willoughby; one grandson, Robert Robby Wayne Gooden Willoughby; son-in-law, Steven Wright; four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Marie Wright of LaGrange, GA and Linda Willoughby of Phenix City, AL; two grandchildren, Joseph Jay Y. Willoughby and his fiance Brandy Crowe of Phenix City, and Laurie Kirk of LaGrange, GA; four great-grandchildren, Kristie Kirk and her fiance Victor Thomaston of Franklin, GA, and Ryan Bass of Franklin, GA, Preston Joe Willoughby and Leianna Marie Thacker; two great-great-grandchildren, Alexa Thomaston and Anistyn Thomaston; many other relatives and friends. Obituary: John Ed Willoughby, age 80, died 25, 2015.He was born on 3, 1935 in Birmingham Alabama, the son of Lewis Hembry and Anita Dean Willoughby. He graduated from West End High School, where he lettered in four sports and was named to the All-City 1953 Basketball Team. He attended The University of Alabama, and was a member and president of Delta Chi Fraternity. working in the family business, Willoughby Furniture; John Ed began his radio career by partnering with Tommy Charles for 22 years on the T.C. and John Ed morning show and later with Doug Layton. Noted for his quick, sharp and improvisational wit, John Ed was a frequent emcee and after dinner speaker. For many years, John Ed coached youth football, notably the National Champion Cahaba Heights Black Knights. He found great joy in working with young children, encouraging knowledge and interest in athletics. He was a member of Vestavia Hills Methodist Church, Vestavia Country Club, and Old Overton Golf Club. In addition to his parents, John Ed was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Jean Quinby Willoughby. He is survived by his son, John Edward Willoughby Jr. J (fiancé Cyd) sister, Anita Bit Taylor (John), beloved granddaughter, Samantha Jean Willoughby, niece, Dean Taylor Cleaveland (Phillip) special friend Jeannie Dunham and loving caregiver, Odessa Brown. Memorial Service for John Ed Willoughby will be held on , 28, 2015 at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church. Obituary: Lt. Colonel Donald Nelson Willoughby, Sr. Lt. Colonel Donald Nelson Willoughby, Sr. a loving husband, proud dad and true patriot, passed away 25th, 2014 at the age of 69. He was a resident of Cold Springs Alabama and was born in Birmingham Nov. 13th 1944. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Rebecca Willoughby (Rye) ; son Bud Donald N. Willoughby Jr.; daughter-in-law Stacy Lockhart Willoughby; 3 granddaughters Madeline, Morgan, and Jenna Willoughby; 3 brothers James Marvin Willoughby, George Moye Willoughby, and Billy J. Willoughby. He was preceded in death by his father Ollie Lee Willoughby, mother Myrtle Irene Willoughby (Harding), brother Onvie, and sister Callie Ann. Donald served our country honorably for 20 years in the Air Force piloting B-52 Bombers. He served during the height of the cold war, spent 1 tour of combat duty in Vietnam, was an instructor pilot and retired in 1989 with a rank of Lt. Colonel. He was very proud of his service to our country and would always energetically tell stories of his time in the military. During his career he was stationed at Lubbock, TX, Merced AFB CA, Minot AFB ND, Carswell AFB Fort Worth TX, Barksdale AFB Shreveport LA, Ramstein AB Germany, and McConnell AFB Wichita KS. He is a graduate of Cold Springs High School class of 1963 and the University of Alabama. He also received an MBA from TCU. retiring from the military he moved back to farm he was raised on in Cold Springs and worked for the State of Alabama Employment office for over 10 years. He was a member of the Cullman Kiwanis Club, the American Legion, and the Air Force Association. He was a proud member of his community always speaking highly of his friends and family. Our nation is grateful for Donalds service in defending our freedom. Services will be held at Cold Springs Missionary Baptist Church on 1st, at 2pm. He will lie-in-state at the church from 1 to 2pm.
