A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on , 29, 2016 at 11:00 AM, his family will visit with friends beginning at 9:00 AM in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia. Burial after the service in Parkhill . Henry was born on 12, 1928 in Opp, Alabama to the late Mamie Cumbie Weaver and Otis Bunion Weaver, one of eight children, he was preceded in death by siblings: Clara Mae, Monroe, Charlie, Mary, and Betty. Henry faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army for a short period of time. his service he held several jobs, retiring as a salesman with Reid Furniture . Henry enjoyed spending time outdoors and raising cattle on his farm. He will be greatly missed. Obituary: Frieda, of Gardendale, AL, passed away peacefully at the age of 88. Frieda was a caring and loving wife, mother, and grandmother and she loved spending time with her family. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed tending to her flowers and plants in her yard. She was a member of the Pineywood Baptist Church. Frieda was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Bertha Loebler; her loving husband, Elmer F. Weaver and a granddaughter, Shirley Michele Weaver. She is survived by her son, Stephen Weaver of Point, AL; daughter, Teresa Renshaw (Bob) of Point, AL; two grandchildren, Josh Williams of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Rachel Williams of Tampa, FL; nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Obituary: Emmett B. Weaver 13, 1925 \ 21, 2014 Emmett was one of three co-founders of Summerfest, long-time entertainment editor of the Birmingham Post- Herald , and a World War II and Korean War veteran, has died. A native of Anniston, AL, Emmett was predeceased by his parents, Frank Crosby Weaver, M.D., and Sara Emmett Boozer, and his brother, Dr. Frank Weaver, Jr., DDM, all of Anniston. Emmett attended Anniston High School. He entered the University of Alabama in pre-med studies and joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity. Due to World War II, he joined the Navy as a medic corpsman. At the close of World War II, he re-entered the University of Alabama and changed his major to Journalism and communications, graduating in 1948. His first job was editor of the Pell City News-Aegis. One year later, he met and married his wife of 63 years, Bobbye Jo Williamson. returned to the University of Alabama, where she was a student, and he worked on his Masters Degree. He joined the Naval Reserve. Three months later, his unit was activated for the Korean crisis. Again, he was a medic, attached to the Fleet Marines, undergoing rigorous training at Camp Lejeune, NC. Upon his release from active duty, he returned to Birmingham and began work on the Birmingham Post-Herald. He was first religion editor and then became amusement and entertainment editor, as well as editor of the Week-Ender (later Kudzu), a position held for 30 years , retiring in 1983. His job entailed covering symphonies, other musical events, theatre, television, and movies, the latter carrying him across the U.S. and to Europe covering world-premiers. He once led the famous Lawrence Welk orchestra, and he attended the state dinner for returning Apollo 11 astronauts in 1969. He was nominated for the Silver Bowl Award many times and received the first Raspberry Award from the Birmingham Press Club. He won the Associated Press Award for his coverage of an event outside his specialty when he reported on the racial tension at the University of Alabama. He belonged to the Birmingham Diners Club, IPC Mens Club, Birmingham Press Club, Studebaker Club, and The Club in the 1960s. He and other Summerfest co-founders were honored by an original stage production presented by the Summerfest Town and Gown Theatre in 1993. He was a member of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church. Emmett worked with the Boy Scouts of America, taking a troop on a 20-mile canoe trip on the Withlocochee River from inland Florida to the Gulf of Mexico. His hobbies included record collecting, swimming, gardening, playing with his beloved Boston terriers, and travel. His favorite trips were to Africa, the Galapagos Islands, Japan, and in the U.S. to Hawaii and Alaska. He is survived by his wife, Bobbye Jo Weaver, sister-in-law, Phyllis Weaver of Oxford AL, cousins Lauzanne (Walt) Casson of New Port Richey FL, Belinda (Ed) Boza of Key West FL, Alice (Bill) Owsley of Anniston AL, Dr. Pat and Sandy Bernardi of Oxford AL, Elizabeth (Roy) Geno, of Kingsport TN, Macon (Michael) Blyth, of Evanston IL, Perry (Kathy) Williamson of Chesapeake VA, and friends like family Sue (Jack) Champion, Dr. Gregg (Laura) Champion, Jeff (Patti) Champion, and Belinda (David) Murphy, all of Birmingham. The family thanks special caregivers Maria Matsumoto, Victor Lee, Mary Dyar, the We Group of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church, and too many others to mention. Visitation will be held at Ridouts Valley Chapel on , 24, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with services immediately following, Dr. Gary Furr officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at 2:30 pm at Valley Hill in Pell City. Pallbearers are: Chris Alexander, Drew Burke, Dr. Gregg Champion, Jeff Champion, Jim Richards, and Brent Warren. Honorary pallbearers are: Dr. Pat Bernardi, Casey Campbell, Jimmy Jones, Jerry Vann, and John Vann. If preferred, memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army or Vestavia Hills Baptist Church in lieu of flowers. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
