Obituary: Marjorie Louise Wright was born in Portland, Oregon on 23, 1919 to Edgar Wilson Wright Jr., and Dorothy Starr (Irwin) Wright. Following the untimely death of her young father in 1925, her mother and 3 daughters moved to Seaside, Oregon where the girls attended Grade school as well as high school. her 1936 graduation from high school, Marjorie was awarded a scholarship to Albany in Albany, Oregon (Now known as Lewis & Clark in Portland, Oregon). In 1941 Marjorie was employed by Polson Logging in Hoquiam, WA as an accounting clerk. She spent 7 wonderful years there and made a number of lifelong friends. The company was sold in 1948 and Marjorie resigned as chief accountant and moved to Seattle. She accepted a position as an accountant with the then Simpson Logging , now known as Simpson Investment . She and her friend Eileen M. Fry, who had been teaching in Aberdeen. agreed to share living quarters as post-war inflated housing prices and scarcity made it difficult to find suitable quarters. This turned out to be a lifetime arrangement for these two devoted friends. Marjorie enjoyed a 36 year career with Simpson, progressing through a series of accounting and financial positions, retiring as Assistant Treasurer of the corporation. She was active in a number of organizations, and had the honor of being elected in 1972-1973 as the first woman president of the 500 member Seattle Tacoma National Association of Accountants, now called the institute of Management Accounting. She was also a member/officer of Western Pension Conference Metropolitan Soroptimist Club, and the short lived Womens Division of the Seattle Chamber of Commerce. She was honored by Matrix Table as a woman of achievement. She was predeceased by her beloved sister and brother in law, Dorothy Starr and Allen E. Gebhard and tragically her treasured oldest nephew, Merlyn G. Wright. Following her retirement from Simpson in 1984, Marjorie enjoyed traveling, golf, and all of our local sport teams, especially the Huskies, as a 50 year football season ticket holder. In 1996 she and Eileen moved to Panorama City in Lacey, Washington where they enjoyed an active life while feeling secure that the continuing care would be there when needed. She is survived by her sister and brother in law, Marian and Edward Fackerell, her devoted friend, Eileen M. Fry, Panorama City, nephews and their wives: Eldon J. and Diana Wright, Ronald and Carol Wright, William L. and Reita Fackerell of Gearhart, Oregon. As well as four nieces: Melva Pierson, Portland, OR, Beverly Smith, Eugene, OR, Elaine Armstead, Medford, ORm Sharon Maier, Brighton, TN, and many treasured great nephews and nieces and their families as well as a host of dear friends. Marjorie was an inactive member of the Episcopal Church. A memorial service will be held in , 2016, please check back for updated service information. |
