Obituary: GENEVA GEN ELEANORE (FANSELAU) WOHLGEMUTH 28, 1919 ~ 15, 2015 Geneva Eleanore Fanselau, 95, was born in a three room adobe house on 28th, 1919, in Burlington, Colorado. She died in Vancouver, Washington on 15th, 2015 of natural causes. Geneva was the third of three daughters born to and Lilly Fanselau. Her sisters, Mildred and Leona preceded her in death. Geneva grew up on the eastern prairies of Colorado and attended Smokey Point school from 1st thru 10th grades. In 1934, she moved with her family to Newberg, Oregon. She attended St. Paul Union High School for two years where she was senior class president. She met her husband, Delmer Wohlgemuth, in the Newberg area and they were married in 1940. settled in Vancouver and raised their family there. Delmer preceded her in death in 2002. She earned a Bachelors degree in 1990, from University of Portland and taught in the Vancouver School System. Geneva is survived by three sons, Craig (Polly) Wohlgemuth of Vancouver, WA, Loren (Carolyn) Wohlgemuth of Mt. Vernon, WA and Mark Wohlgemuth of Anchorage AK; 8 grandchildren; and 17 great- grandchildren. Obituary: Kathryn R. (Marvin) Wohlers, after living 94 ½ years, died peacefully at her home in Chehalis, WA, 14, 2010. Kittee was born 6, 1916, in Winamac Indiana, the second of three children. She is survived by her sister Rosemary Farver. Her brother, Melvin, preceded her in death. The Wohlers made their home in several different areas of the United States prior to settling in Place, WA, in 1962. Despite hardships during the depression, she developed a positive outlook honed throughout her life. Her husband, John D. Wohlers, preceded her in death in 1995. She is survived by her children, J. Robert Wohlers (Earlene) of Chehalis, WA, William R. Wohlers (Rita) of dale, TN, and Karen Y. Boulton (Michael), of Mill Valley, CA. Also surviving her are five grandchildren Wendy Kleppe (Kurt), Nicole Kiger (Doug), Jon Wohlers (Naomi), Jason Wohlers (Kathleen) and Jeremy Wohlers. Kittee is also survived by six great-grandchildren and beloved nieces and nephews. Kittees hobbies included sewing, needlework, and reading but she is possibly best remembered for her efficiency. She organized and alphabetized everything and used this skill to endear herself to those who employed her as proof reader, secretary, and Store manager. She was one of those rare women who could raise a family, work full-time, keep an immaculate house, entertain guests on short notice, and maintain her sanity. her retirement about 30 years ago, Kittee was a Pink Lady volunteer at Walla Walla General Hospital, a cashier for Place Community Services and she helped with mailings for Walla Walla University. Friends were very important to Kittee. Phone calls were a favorite way of communicating with those dear to her. She remembered her loved ones with notes and birthday cards and treasured the cards and letters from others. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MOMS LIFE SKETCH (Read at the memorial service by Bill Wohlers) Kathryn Rosetta Marvin was born 6, 1916, in Winamac Indiana. She was the second child of Dennis and Inez Marvin. Her initial growing up years were spent in various locations in northern Indiana where father Den worked as a logger and farmer. On one occasion when the team drivers did not show up Den had six-year-old Kathryn drive the team of six horses by herself. The family moved to Kokomo, Indiana in 1925. Kathryn begged for a baby sister like her friend Barbara Heltzel. In 1926 that wish was fulfilled when Rosemary was born. At the age of 16 Kathryn enrolled at Indiana Academy where she began to be known to her friends as Kittee - with two es. In 1933 she had to drop out due to an logging accident in which her father lost his left arm and right hand. She returned to IA in 1934 graduating in 1936. The return to IA proved more than just to earn her high school diploma. Shortly after returning she met a handsome young man from Berrien Springs, Michigan, who had been sent by his mother, Bertha, to get away from the girls at Emmanuel Missionary . This began a 7-year courtship that culminated in a 54 and a half year marriage to John Wohlers. The wedding took place on 23, 1940, in the old chapel at Emmanuel Missionary where both had attended college. The service was performed by Elder T. E. Unruh, who would later perform the funeral service for Den Marvin. Two and a half years later Kittee and Johnnee had their first child, John Robert, born in St. Joseph, Michigan, on 13, 1943. To support the growing family, husband John took a job at Modern Plastics, where he was assured not to be drafted into the military. In a few months, John entered the United States Army where he would eventually serve overseas in the Philippines and New Guinea. If John thus became a member of the Greatest Generation, Kittee would soon demonstrate that she was part of that group as well. While her husband became a soldier, Kittee accepted a call to serve as matron at her alma mater, Indiana Academy. This gave her a good means of support and allowed her to move from Berrien Springs to Cicero, Indiana, where she was much closer to her parents and teenage sister. It also presented challenges, including preparing American style meals for all the academy students, keeping the girls from spoiling cute little Bobbee (they lived in the girls dorm), and keeping mischievous, boys like Bob Farver in line. As with most everything in her life, she succeeded without question. I can testify to her cooking, Bobbee was never spoiled, and Bob Farver became a beloved brother-in-law when he married Rosemary. Husband John rejoined the family in Cicero after his discharge. While he lacked only a year to graduate from college, he decided not to return home to EMC. Instead he packed up his family and their belongings and traveled all the way to southern California and the new senior college, La Sierra. For six weeks John flirted with a pre-med curriculum (he had been a lab tech in the army) but quickly changed back to business and graduated in 1948. During that last year of college Kittee worked in the college grocery store. She also gave birth to a second son, William Richard, on 7, 1947. Nineteen months later the disappointment that Billee was not a girl was overcome when Karen Yvonne was born, also at Loma Linda, on 22, 1949. During those years John became the young manager of the La Sierra Press and Mom enjoyed the new home purchased with financing through the GI Bill. Jars of sauerkraut were placed in the back yard to season, and canning of the abundant California fruit became a seasonal ritual, including twice surviving exploding jars as they were removed from the boiling water.
