Obituary: Warren "Red" Wagoner (Age 84) - "Red" Wagoner passed away evening, 7th, surrounded by his wife and sons. Who was Red? He was a son to Chauncey and Cora Wagoner, born in Springdale, WA, 1926. He was a brother, the 9th of 10 children. Red was a soldier, joining the Army at the age of 17. He saw action in the Phillippines during WWII and then again in Korea, he was a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient for bravery under extreme conditions. Red was a husband to Barbara for nearly 54 years and was a proud father to Stan, Randy and Rich. Red was in the construction industry his entire life working in Alaska after Korea and starting his own firm Wagoner Arch Form Buildings. His "Arch Form" style of buildings dot the landscape of the Inland Northwest and are his legacy of hard work. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Jacob, Nicole, Gabrielle, Paige and Breanna. Jody the first daughter in-law always had a special place in his heart. Patty as the mother of his the first two grandchildren Jacob and Nicole was his hero. He was very proud of Breanne who entered the Armed Services and fought in Iraq. Valerie provided the icing on the cake with the arrival of the familys first "redhead" Gabrielle; and the greatest challenge and payback to Rich when Paige was born. Red was a family man who especially enjoyed family gatherings at the house surrounded by his family and friends. He was a jokester- never missing an opportunity to poke fun or incite laughter. He was a cook, famous for his baked beans, pickles and pie. He loved dancing with Barbara the love of his life on any and all occasions. Red was a sports fan who loved Gonzaga basketball and had a love/hate relationship with the Seattle Mariners. He was an avid woodworker building arbors, planters, wishing wells, and also building cradles for his granddaughters and Jacobs first sled. He was a gardener who loved his tomatoes, strawberries and grapes. As one of the founding members of the "LOFTERS" golf club his retirement was complete as every was either a golf game or breakfast with his dearest buddies. He loved to Salmon fish in Westport and spent many frustrating hours on Lake Pend Oreille trying to catch "something". He was a great subject in pictures, especially when taken by Nicole at birthdays and Christmas. He was a buddy to Jacob, always insisting that grandpas way was the best. Red lived every day full bore. He worked hard, played hard and loved big. We will miss his courage, strength, and most of all we will miss our Dad, Grandpa, and Husband. He had the heart of a lion and he will always be with us. We will celebrate his life and memory , 11th at 11:00 AM at Hazen & Jaeger Valley, 1306 N Pines Rd., Spokane Valley. A reception will follow at St. Marys Catholic Church, 4th and Adams, Spokane Valley. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice House, PO Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210. |
