Obituary: Charles J. Chuck Williams went to his Heavenly home on 19, 2015. He was 90 years of age and had suffered from Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinsonism. His one desire was that everyone go to Heaven. Charles was a native of Bluefield, VA, and moved to Norfolk his senior year of high school, graduating from Granby in 1942. He attended the Norfolk Division of the of William & Mary (1944) and won a scholarship to Julliard Music School. While at Julliard, he was invited to spend four summers with the prestigious Chatauqua Opera , studying and performing with Metropolitan Opera singers. He toured the country with an opera company, performing in over 36 operas. He sang in New York at Astis Restaurant, with Milton Berle, Arthur Godfrey, Fred Waring, Robert Shaw and many others. When he returned to Norfolk, he starred in The Confederacy, many musicals with Norfolk Little Theatre, Virginia Beach Little Theatre and Sandpiper Playhouse. He retired from WTKR-TV after almost 30 years as Producer-Director and Production Manager. He also directed many national events for Network TV including Douglas MacArthurs funeral. For many years, Charles was the Singing Santa Claus at the Norfolk Sports Club, Princess Anne Country Club and Sandbridge, always sharing the true meaning of Christmas with those he entertained. This was one of the great joys of his life. He was a member of the quartet at Freemason Street Baptist Church in Norfolk for 42 years and retired in 2006 as the baritone emeritus. Of all his endeavors, his tenure at Freemason Church was the most meaningful to him and he loved his church and all its members . He also sang for various civic organizations and for many other churches in the Hampton Roads area and enjoyed being a part of their services. He gave freely of his time and talent wherever there was a need. He and his wife, Anne, moved to Williamsburg in 1985, and he enjoyed many years playing golf and making new friends. He embarked upon a second career as the Singing Mayor of San Marco at Busch Gardens (1986-1991) and loved singing Italian songs and entertaining the crowds. Charles showed great courage and determination throughout his illness and continued to bless those he met. He loved everyone, and this is his greatest legacy. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Anne; his sister, Eileen Foulkes, and his son, Jay of Virginia Beach. A memorial service and committal in the Church Columbarium will be held at Freemason Street Baptist Church, 400 East Freemason Street, Norfolk, VA 23510, on , 1, at 11 AM; and a reception to honor him will be held at the Kingsmill Golf Club on , 5, from 2-4 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Freemason Street Baptist Church. Nelsen & Crematory is handling arrangements. Special thanks to his loving caregivers, Cheryl Winston, Karen Fair, and the staff and nurses at Patriots Colony Convalescent where he had resided for the last 10 months and to Riverside Hospice Services for their many kindnesses and care. |

Obituary: Obituary On 18, 1938, Charles Williams was born to Daisy Bell and Roosevelt Williams in Walterboro, South Carolina. He was raised in Ocala, Florida by his uncle Samuel Williams and attended Howard High School there. Colonel Williams went on to attend Florida A&M University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, Florida where he played football under the late great Jake Gaither, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Arizona. Retired Colonel Charles Williams joined the United States Army in 1961 and served his country well for over 30 years in various capacities including Deputy Chief of Staff, Comptroller, Director of Resource Management, Chief Management Service Division, Financial Management, Human Resources, Management Analysis and Administration, and Research. He is a decorated Veteran of the Vietnam War. His honors received include the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. His retirement from the military came in 1992, but his works did not end there. Charles chose to continue his life of service and accepted the role of Executive Director at Maryland for Veterans Education and Training (MCVET) in Baltimore, MD in 1994. Under his leadership the organization flourished from a grassroots organization serving 20 homeless veterans to a full continuum care with wrap-around services for more than 250 male and female veterans. His dedication and tireless efforts did not go unnoticed. Charles received notable recognition during his tenure at MCVET such as the dedication of a street named Colonel Charles Williams Way in Baltimore, MD and the recognition of 7, 2012 as Colonel Charles Williams Day in Baltimore, MD. Despite the career success and accolades, Charles greatest sense of pride and accomplishment was in his family. were his greatest joy and he spent much of his time in activity with them. He married his wife, Ocie in 1962. have three children and seven grandchildren. He was an excellent patriarch and provider to his family, and managed to put his grandchildren in addition to all of his children through college. He was very active spiritually as a member of Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia. He additionally enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, and watching sports. On 23, 2015, Retired Colonel Charles Williams passed away at his residence in Springfield, VA surrounded by his doting family. Devoted husband of Ocie Fuller Williams; father of Sheila Williams of Springfield, VA, Sharon (Frantz) Pago of Springfield, VA, Charles (Avis) Williams of West Chester, PA; grandfather of Shiedha Williams, Kiara Williams, Scott Williams, Andrea Williams, Jazmin Williams, Chucky Williams and Taj Williams.
