Obituary: Burl Merrick Wright 5, 1932 – 20, 2008 Burl Wright was born in San Antonio, Texas 5, 1932 to Jesse Slawson and William G. Wright. He was the 4th child in his family of 10. His education through the 8th grade was in Leming just south of San Antonio. At the age of 13 he left formal school to pick peanuts in the fields, generating additional income to help support the family. Many life lessons continued throughout his military career after joining the United States Marine Corps at 17. These lessons began right out of boot camp at MCRD in San Diego when he was sent to the Korean Conflict where he fought at the frozen Chosin Reservoir with the First Marine Division, Fifth Regiment. Having survived with others known as the Chosin Few, he returned to the United States and was sent to the Pensacola Naval Hospital where his hands and feet were saved from severe frost bite. He continued to grow as a leader through an unaccompanied tour to Okinawa in 1960. At the height of his career in the Marine Corps, Burl made three trips to Viet Nam as a unit leader and then as a military advisor to the South Vietnamese Army. On Burls last tour he was involved with two orphanages, one Catholic and the other Buddhist. From his involvement, a collection effort netted many shipments of hygiene products and clothing being sent to South Viet Nam from the people of San Antonio. In of 1966, he earned a battlefield promotion to Second Lieutenant. His return to the states brought him back to Camp Pendleton as a condolence officer while working as a liaison in the military court system. It was at this time that he asked to be reverted back to Master Sergeant so he could return to his passion, preparing the young Marines for combat at I.T.R. as an instructor. Burls final assignment in the USMC was as an instructor, teaching marksmanship, military history and military justice, attached to the NROTC at Stanford University from 1969 through 1973. His battlefield experience prepared him well to provide the needed leadership on this campus during this time. A fellow Marine brother who commanded that ROTC unit refers to those times at the university as the Battle Stanford. Burls summers were spent in Texas training the midshipmen at NAS Corpus Christi. 24 years of active duty Burl retired and transferred to Fleet Marine Corps Reserves for an additional 6 years. At completion of thirty years of service he was reinstated to his prior rank of First Lieutenant. During his years of service his awards included the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and his personal greatest achievement was the 4th award of the Good Conduct Medal. He was a Marines Marine. Before his military career, Burl worked at the San Antonio State Hospital and the Lithium plant on Nacogdoches. Following his military service, he attended San Antonio to complete his associates degree in air conditioning and refrigeration, then working at Smith Motors, Alamo Iron Works and Jim Blee Court Reporting. The health issues that he fought bravely for so many years, with his wife and family close by, finally won out. The family wants to thank and recognize all the medical teams at Wilford Hall for the compassionate and expert care they provided Burl in his last month. And to the staff at Air Force Village I , thanks go to you for being there for him these past months. Anyone who knew Burl definitely knew him as a responsible man of his word. Obituary: MSgt Ret Buddy Allen Wright lost his battle with cancer on , May 9, 2005. He was preceded in death by his father, Major Temple Wright. He is survived by his wife, Helen Wright; his mother, Hazel Hattie Wright of Noble, Oklahoma; his sons, Jerry N. Wright Sr. of Noble, Oklahoma; and David A. Wright of Bryan, Texas; his daughter Donna C. Wright Sheets of San Antonio, Texas; his brother, Danny G. Wright and his wife, Barbara; his grandchildren, Jerry and Jacqueline Wright; Jennifer and Jeanine Wright; and James and Danielle Sheets; his stepsons, Richard L. Johnston and his wife, Kim of Hurst, Texas; Edward J. Johnston deceased of San Antonio, Texas; John S. Johnston of San Antonio, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews and step-grandchildren. Buddy was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on 2, 1932 to Major Temple and Hazel Hattie Wright. He graduated from San Fernando High School in Whittier, California in 1951. He proudly served the United States Air Force, enjoying a 26 year military career. He went to basic training in 1952 at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas. He was stationed in many areas of the world including Laon, France; Sembach and Landstuhl, Germany; Erhac AB, Turkey; Amarillo AFB, Texas; Shepard AFB, Texas, and ultimately retired at Lackland AFB, Texas. Upon retiring from the Air Force, he attended St. Phillips , and in 1981 he received his Bachelors of Science in Occupational Education degree from Southwest State University in San Marcos, Texas. He began his public school teaching career at Southwest Junior High School, San Antonio, Texas. Once he retired from the public school system, in 1988, he continued his teaching career for civil service. He worked at the Defense Language Institute at Lackland AFB, Texas, teaching English to foreign military students. He then taught Law Enforcement to Navy personnel, where he retired from civil service after 16 years, in 2004. He was actively involved as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America for 18 years. He also enjoyed dancing and was a member of the local area Square and Round Dance Association, participating in the Dance Arounds Exhibition Group and the Happy Pairs Round Dance Club. Buddy and Helen were well known for their ballroom dancing and Buddy especially enjoyed dancing the jitterbug. One of Buddys happiest moments was when he became a Roman Catholic. He attended Mass at St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church every . He was a very quiet, caring and generous man. He will be missed by family, friends and everyone he touched. Obituary: Bobbie Jean Fain Wright, 83, passed away on 18, 2015 in Arlington, TX. She was born on 30, 1931 in Ingleside, TX to the late Loy Raymond and Melva Mae Fain. She was a lifelong resident of Corpus Christi and will be dearly missed. Bobbie Jean graduated from Ingleside High school in 1948 and loved going to their reunions in the later years. She married the love of her life William Hollis Wright in of 1949. She was a member of Windsor Park Baptist Church and of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a church secretary and school teacher. She was also a counselor secretary at Shannon Jr. High and a registrar at Richard King High school. She enjoyed spending time with her family, square dancing, travel, sewing, and will be remembered for her love of the Texas A&M Aggies. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved husband. She leaves behind to cherish her memories her children, Deborah Gilbert (Larry), Dwayne Wright (Brenda), David Wright (Christie); grandchildren, Lori Moore, Kristin Ayala, Kayleen Wright; great grandchildren, Kaci, Kara, Ashton, Gavin; sisters, Wanda Fain Robertson, and Melva Fain Stewart.
