Obituary: Jobeth Cannon Worden went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 16, 2011. Jobeth passed away peacefully at the Christopher house in Austin, TX. She was born on May 21, 1931 in Amarillo, Texas to Joseph and Elizabeth Jesse Cannon. Jobeth was preceded in death by her father, mother and her loving husband, Alfred E. Worden, as well as her beloved cat, Buddy Boy. Jobeth was baptized at the Polk Street Methodist Church in Amarillo. At the age of 3 she was named little miss Amarillo. Jobeths early elementary years were spent in Sherman and Waco Texas. She and her mother moved to Little Rock, Arkansas to be close to her mothers family. Jobeth attended Pulasky Heights Elementary and Jr. High. She graduated from the Old Central High School in 1949. graduation she entered training for Radiological Technology (x-ray) at Baptist Memorial Hospital. When Jobeth sat and passed her registry exam, she was the youngest on record at the time in the country. graduation, Jobeth went on to work for Baptist Memorial Hospital, where she ended up meeting her husband to be, Alfred Worden. At the time Alfred was studying to be a doctor. were engaged and married on 13, 1953. Shortly after Jobeth and Alfred were married, they moved to Port Arthur, Texas. Jobeth worked at Park Place Hospital where she became the Director of the Radiology Department. While in Port Arthur, Jobeth gave birth to their only son, Eric. Jobeth continued to work at Park Place Hospital until she was offered the position of Director of Radiology at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston. While at Ben Taub, Jobeth also sat on the Board of the Baylor of Medicine. During Jobeths years in Radiological Technology, she was very active in the Texas Society of Radiological Technologists. She eventually was elected President of the Society and given the Lifetime Achievement Award. Jobeth was recognized nationally for her achievements in x-ray technology. By 1977, the decision was made to move to Austin so that Jobeth and Eric could be with Alfred who was working at the Texas Department of . It was at this time Jobeth decided to be a full time mother for her son. She became very active in the P.T.A., Cub Scouts and issues pertaining to the school district, and the University Hills Neighborhood Association. Jobeth is a lifelong member of the University Hills Neighborhood Association and the Dottie Jordan Advisory Board. Once Eric reached high school, Jobeth returned to work. She worked in public health promotion for the Texas Department of until her retirement in 1996. Ever since the familys move to Austin, Jobeth was absolutely in love with her neighborhood and its environment. This became her passion and crusade. Jobeth served on several boards and committees that sole purpose was to improve and protect her neighborhood, its children and environment. She worked to ensure that schools and parks in the area had the proper resources to benefit everyone. She worked to have the school district purchase additional land in order to build new schools so that classrooms would not be overcrowded. Jobeth also was instrumental in continuous improvements to Dottie Jordan Park so that all people in the neighborhood would have a nice and safe place to come and enjoy the outdoors. Jobeths absolute biggest joy in her later life has been her grandchildren, Brandon, Eric, and Alec. To them she was Buffy. Buffy was the nickname her husband gave her when they were dating. She didn like the word grandma or even grandmother, so we called her Buffy. She loved to hold and sing to them. Anything they did she wanted to know all about it. That was the best part of her day, to see her grandchildren. were the loves of her life. She will always be with them. Jobeth is survived by her son and daughter in law, Eric and Sonya Worden; grandchildren, Brandon, Eric and Alec Worden; her adopted sons from Port Arthur, Keith Wolford and Randy Theriot and Ray Washington and Kevin Thompson of Austin. Along with her dear neighbor, Kenny Dickensheets; her dearest of friends, Jean Allen and Al Weber, who talked to her thru all of her illness and took her to doctors appointments and stayed by her side while at the Christopher House. Thank you to Nancy Carlin for taking care of my grandbabies when Eric or Sonya couldn get them to their baseball games. And for picking them up from school when Sonya and Eric Wernt able. To each and every one of my brothers and sisters from the University Hills Neighborhood Association, I love you with all my heart. And to my angels on earth, Dr. Robert Myerson, Dr. Paolo Venegoni, Edgar Harris, D.D.S. and Mary Ellen Clifford, RN (hospice) I love you all. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six oclock until eight oclock in the evening on , the 19th of May, at Cook-Walden , 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin. A funeral service will be conducted at ten oclock in the morning on , the 20th of May, at Cook-Walden . Obituary: Worden, Ithiel Murray “Air Raid”, 89, passed away 22, 2015 in Dallas, TX. He was born in Lubbock, TX on 2, 1926. His parents John Adams Worden and Sue Murray Worden preceded him in death along with his brother John Blount Worden, wife Irene Elizabeth Worden whom he married May 7, 1952, and infant son John Lorimer Worden. He is survived by Son, Ithiel Murray “Mike” Worden, Jr.; Daughter, Sue Janine Worden; Son, Charles W. “Fred” Wells and his wife, Linda Rawlinson Wells; and Granddaughter, Amy Dawn Wells. Ithiel attended 6 schools in 5 states in one year during the Depression. He was a direct male descendant of Peter Worden I who landed on Cape Cod in the early 1600’s, and he joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 at the age of 17 following a family tradition of military service dating to pre-Revolutionary times. He served aboard the USS Underhill DE 682 from its commissioning (plank owner) until it was sunk on 24, 1945. the war he worked as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator until a serious accident in summer 1952. Seeking to support his blended family from a hospital bed, Ithiel started a new career in cold-call sales, leading him to become a Real Estate Broker and Independent Insurance Agent. Ithiel was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cedar Hill. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Hella Shrine. He served the community of Cedar Hill as a member of the City Council and various boards. While serving as Mayor, he was instrumental in developing the Trinity River Authority for Southern Dallas . He was an enthusiastic long-standing member of the DeSoto Stars Square Dance Club. As a great lover of life, Ithiel never met a stranger. He leaves a legacy of service to community, service to country, and love of family. |
