Obituary: WORCHEL Cpl. Benjamin H. Worchel passed away on 6, 2002 at the age of 21 years old. Born in San Antonio, Texas on May 11, 1980, Benjamin began his life as a child of joy and laughter. He was raised in a loving Christian home in San Antonio and his generous and fun loving nature was evidenced early in life as he pursued team sports in soccer and team bowling. Later, at the age of 14, Benjamin fulfilled his promise to Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ by his Confirmation at Abiding Presence Lutheran Church. Benjamin was also an active member of his Christian Youth Group. The promises of his fine character blossomed during his participation in the Madison High School JROTC program and was evidenced by his high regard for his parents and sisters. Benjamin matured through the challenges he sought and goals he achieved in JROTC and by attaining his final rank of Lieutenant as a high school senior. He graduated from high school in 1999 and immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Because of his four years of superior service in JROTC and his achievements in boot camp, Benjamin graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California with the distinction of Private First Class in , 1999. Benjamin and his high school sweetheart, Amanda Vann, married on 19, 2000 in Vista, California. At a time when the nation was grieving the 11th terrorist attacks, Benjamin and Amanda gave their family and friends a special hope through the birth of their son Aleksander Worchel, born 12, 2001. the birth and Christening of their son, the Worchels returned to San Diego, where they were stationed at Camp Pendleton. In 2001, Benjamin was promoted to the rank of Corporal. While out on a training mission last night, Benjamin and two fellow Marines lost their lives. Obituary: Thomas George Worcester, 81, of The Woodlands, TX, husband and best friend of Lois (Weglinski) Worcester for 54 years, passed away peacefully on 23, 2015. Tom was born in East Liverpool, OH, in 1934. He attended Ohio University on an ROTC scholarship and received both B.S. and M.S degrees. A true student athlete, he wrestled and played baseball while excelling in his studies as a physicist. While attending school he met and fell in love with an aspiring fine arts major, soon to be his wife, Lois Weglinski. He later went on to Penn State University on a teaching fellowship where he worked on his Ph.D. He spent time in the military and served two years as a First Lieutenant and Commander of the 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles) at Ft. Campbell, KY, where he honed the skill of expert Jumpmaster. Tom spent most of his career divided between Exxon and The Union Carbide Corporation. Early on, he was a research physicist for the Esso Research and Engineering Co. in Florham Park, NJ. His work was concentrated in the oil industry and had him traveling to worldwide locations in South America, London, New York City, Hong Kong, Australia and Saudi Arabia. His work with computers at their earliest stages was truly cutting edge and he and Lois often told stories of spending time together in the computer lab using punch cards for programming. numerous moves across the United States, Tom moved the family to Caracas, Venezuela for seven years with Exxon. Always an outdoorsman, he spent a significant time scuba diving, camping, hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. He was a firm believer in instilling the same sense of adventure in his family thus many a trip were taken through the rainforests of South America where fishing for piranha, speargunning fish for dinner, and sleeping in hammocks above crocodiles would become the norm. He kept up his active lifestyle by continuing to play squash and tennis, riding his bike, and eventually taking up and being humbled by the game of golf when he moved his family to Wilton, CT in 1973. spending 13 years commuting to both New York City and Danbury, he was transferred to The Woodlands, TX in 1986 where he eventually retired with Union Carbide. In addition to his wife Lois, Tom is survived by four children: his two sons, Tom Worcester of New Canaan, CT, and Scott Worcester of Manhattan, NY, as well as two daughters, Julie Sheppard of The Woodlands, TX and Amy Worcester Lanzi of Manhattan, NY; and eight grandchildren, Tommy, Brittany, Victoria, Samantha, Charlotte, Jackson, Cole, and his newest addition, Vincent. A memorial service will be held honoring Tom on , 7th at 10 a.m. at Forest Park. We thank God for the gift of his life, the blessing of the time we spent with him, and that his legacy lives on in his children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, and in light of his decorated military career, the family has requested donations be made in Toms memory to the Wounded Warrior Project. http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org Donation information can be found on the websites donation page. |
