Obituary: Wanda Jean Wood, 77, resident of Austin, Texas, passed away on , 7, 2014. She was born on 26, 1936 in Colorado City, Texas to Luther and Ophie Grant Morrow. Wanda was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved taking care of her family and enjoyed the retirement years with her husband, Woody. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Franklin D. Woody Wood, parents, 3 sisters, and 3 brothers. Wanda will be sadly missed by her children, Danny R. Wood and Vickie D. Curtis; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives; and a host of friends. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., , 12, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks . Services will follow at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel with Rev. Cheryl Ann Broome officiating. Interment will follow the services at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park. Honoring Wanda as pallbearers will be Tommy Morrow, Gary Lamb, Buster Lamb, Ricky Paul, Terry Morrow, and Conor Izzett. Obituary: Virginia Wood, 97, died a grace filled and peaceful death in her room at St. Dominic Village, at 8:22 P.M., on 6, 2015; The Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. Two of her sons were at her bedside. Virginia received the Last Rites of the Church and the Sacrament of the Sick prior to her death. A Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 P.M., on , 12, 2015 at St. Dominic Village, Warren Chapel in Houston, Texas. The main celebrant will be Rev. Robert Garrity, a personal friend of the family. Reception to follow. Viewing and Rosary will begin at 1:00 P.M. Virginia will be interned with her husband at Arlington National in Washington, D.C, on a future date to be determined. Virginia was born 3, 1917, in Harrisville, New York to Edward and Edna Nolan. Her father was a plant manager for International Paper . During her childhood and teenage years her fathers managerial assignments took Virginia and her family to Madawaska, Maine, Chillicothe, Ohio, and Ft. Edward, New York. It was in Ft. Edward where she met her future husband, Robert Wood. Virginia graduated from high school in Maine and later attended Ohio University to study in the of Education. On 27, 1938, she and Robert were married. Virginia worked as a primary school teacher prior to dedicating herself to raising three sons. Her husband was a World War II veteran and career officer in the United States Air Force reaching the rank of Full Colonel prior to his retirement in 1965. During his military career Virginia and the family lived in Nagoya, Japan; Syracuse, New York; Montgomery, Alabama; and Falls Church, Virginia. his retirement from the military Virginia lived in Tallahassee, Florida; Columbia, South Carolina; and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Upon her husbands death in 2001, Virginia moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she lived until 2013, when she relocated to Houston to be near family. Virginia was a devoted member of the Roman Catholic Church, a dedicated wife of 63 years, a devoted mother, and an accomplished artist having produced many fine works in oil, acrylic, and watercolour. Her other interests included reading, traveling, and gardening. Mrs. Virginia Nolan Wood is survived by her brother, Robert Nolan, sister, Oliver; 3 sons and their spouses, Robert Wood, Jr. (Sandra), Peter Wood, Christopher Wood (Helene); and 6 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Nolan. |

Obituary: Virginia O for Orosco Wood was born on 17, 1922, in Floresville, Wilson , Texas. She grew up in San Antonio, Bexar , Texas. The schools she completed were Brisco Elementary, Harris Junior High and Brackenridge High School. In order to gain work experience, Virginia went to work in a department store until World War II was declared. Virginia was one of the first to join the Womens Army Corps WAC and served until it was discontinued. her service, she pursued a career with the Civil Service at Fort Sam Houston. She took educational courses to become a computer expert. She climbed the ranks of the Civil Service. Her specific duties were to supervise civilians and military personnel in administering the computer needs of the military. She married Sgt. Major Jesse W. Wood Jr., a career military man and moved many times to such places as Germany, Hawaii and other locations in Europe. Virginia and her husband had one daughter, Ginny Lea. During this time, she was always able to work on military bases. Virginia became a widow in 1965, when her husband died as a result of the illnesses acquired during the Korean War. She continued to work for the government in San Antonio and accrued retirement service of 43 years. retirement, she was a very active member of the San Antonio Conservation Society, the Toastmistresses organization, Charitable Sororities, the Night in Old San Antonio Commission in connection with the Fiesta Association and the Conservation Society. She was in charge of Clown Alley at Fiestas Night in Old San Antonio and worked diligently at Clown Alley every year, supervising the food service. She also was a volunteer tour guide of the Steves stead in King William subdivision; her sentences were crisp and enticing always capturing the attention of her audience. Virginia also participated in a national organization for Parliamentarians; she herself was a certified Parliamentarian. She was a whiz at cooking, sewing, organizing parties, dinners and banquets. There was no better taste than her chicken fried bacon: thick slabs of bacon dipped in flour and fried to perfection I It was the talk of San Antonio. Virginia enjoyed life brilliantly in San Antonio until 2005. She sold her home on Oak Haven and moved to her condominium in Dallas, a unit that she purchased earlier in the event she needed to move closer to family. She had a lovely unit with a bay window overlooking a gorgeous pool with beautiful landscape. Virginia enjoyed life with her caretaker, Sylvia, for many years. She would enjoy going with Sylvia to her favorite place, The Maple Point, a place where she would enjoy a light scotch and split a dinner dish with Sylvia; it was right around the corner from her home and she would dress up and flirt with the men. Later, because of a fall, she moved to the Traymore, a wonderful retirement home in Dallas, near Love Field. There, she participated in weekly happy hours, Elvis Pressley concerts, bingo games, puzzle solving, and many activities that made her so very happy. Virginia is survived by a daughter, Virginia Lea Russell and her husband, Russell; a grandson, Matthew Russell of McKinney, Texas and his wife Daniele; one sister, Consuelo Gonzalez; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
