Obituary: Bob Winn died peacefully at his Dallas residence on the morning of 24, 2015. He was born on 18, 1933 in Wiley, Texas to his parents Carl Winn and Lula Cain Winn. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Jan Wilson Winn, son Robert Todd Winn and his wife Julie and their sons Adam Winn and William Winn, his daughter Susan Winn Wilkerson and her husband Walter and their daughters Whitney Wilkerson and Caroline Wilkerson all of Dallas. Bob is also survived by a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and in laws all of whom he loved very much. Bob grew up in Ferris Texas the youngest of five children in a close-knit and loving family. His four his siblings preceded him in death. Family and friends were of great importance to Bob and until his death he maintained close friendships with many of the people he had known since childhood. Bob attended SMU where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Bob had a very successful business career having served as a board member and president of Ferris Brick . In the early 1970s, subsequent to the sale of Ferris Brick, Bob purchased a small wholesale meat company, Buntings Wholesale Market, which was located in the Farmers Market area of downtown Dallas. Under Bobs leadership, Buntings, which was eventually renamed Winn Meat , grew into a very well respected participant in the meat industry and was shipping products all over the United States. To accommodate growth, Bob constructed a modern meat processing and distribution facility for Winn Meat in the early 1980s. Bob developed many close personal friendships in the meat business and served his industry as a board member of the Southwest Meat Association including one year as its president. Upon retirement, Bob and Jan moved to East Texas where they were able to buy a farm outside of Alba that had been in Bobs family for years and where he had often visited as a child. There they built a beautiful home to accommodate the large numbers of family and friends who came to visit and the farm was Bobs heaven on earth. Bob Winn was a faithful Christian, devoted husband and father, and a friend to many. He was a good man and will be missed dearly. The family will have a private graveside service on , 29th and will receive family and friends at the home of Susan and Walter Wilkerson at 3833 Southwestern Blvd. from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any memorials be made to the Scholarship Fund of the Hillier School at Highland Park Presbyterian Church via their website at hillierschool.org/hilliercontribute, or by mail to 3821 University Blvd., Dallas, TX 75205. |
