Obituary: Doris Lorene Robertson was born in the home of per parents on 26, 1923 in Hawarden, Iowa. She was the third of four children born to Roscoe and Dovye (Kennedy) Robertson. Her younger sister and best friend, Shirley lives in Hutchinson, KN. graduating from Hawarden High School, Doris worked at a meat/deli shop and selling tickets at the local movie theater. Her hobbies as a teen were roller skating, reading, movies and shopping. Doris married Lawrence O. Wilkison on 2, 1942. While Larry was serving his country in North Africa and Italy, Doris moved to San Diego to live with her sister Dolly and her husband. In California, Doris worked in the parts department for an aircraft manufacturer involved in the war effort. a year, Doris moved back to Iowa and began working for Northwestern Telephone company in Hawarden. When Larry came home from the war, he and Doris moved to the north side of Chicago.Lary went to electronics school in the day while working evenings as Essex Wire. He worked 37 years for that company. Doris and Larry had two sons, Greg and Jeff. The family moved several times over Larry's 37 year career wit Essex Wire. The couple retired in West Lafayette, IN where they had made many friends, Their "second" career was to manage"A Storage Inn." would remain for 15 years until they retired in 1996 to the Dallas area so they would be near their sons - Greg and his wife who live in Colleyville and Jeff, his wife and three teens that live in Flower Mound. Doris remained in her home after Larry passed away in 2003, In early 2007, she moved to Pinewood Hills becoming one of the first residents. Her sister, Shirley, made numerous trips over the last 9 years to visit, her last trip to visit was this Christmas. Her best friend, Marti Montego has always checked in on Doris and was there until the end. Doris passed away peacefully on , 7, 2017 in her Pinewood Hills apartment. Our thanks to the professionals at Ardent Hospice for all their leadership, care and help with honoring Doris' wishes to remain in her home.
