Obituary: Nellye Jane Wickersham, (Toodle), 99, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away , 1, 2016. Born 3, 1916 in Mangum, (Greer ), Oklahoma, Nell was the seventh of eight children of Frank Morell Wickersham and Lillie May Sword Wickersham.

Nell's oldest sister, Zelma, nicknamed Nell "Toodle", as TOODLES was a name American Character used over and over for chubby baby dolls, and was also the first Vogue doll marked with the company name.

Nell was always happy, strong, witty and ambitious. Her loving sister, Helen, enjoyed mothering her, being that Nell was the youngest girl. One day the two of them were in the backyard making mud pies. decided household flour would combine nicely with the moist dirt, so, with boggy hands a trip was made to the kitchen, and a reach into the flour bin successfully resulted in beautiful non-edible morsels and a dirty kitchen floor.

There was a time, however, when Helen tied a string onto a cricket's leg. Nell cried out to her, "YOUMOSENTDODAT!"

Also, as little girls, Nell and Helen loved the smell of their dad's chewing tobacco, a sweet scent of apples. so wanted a taste that their wish was granted, and each received a small plug. a short chew, the sisters never again asked for a repeat.

In high school Nell excelled in sports, with basketball, swimming, and track being her favorites. During one race event, Nell was in the lead, but somehow got off track, with her team following. Needless to say, there was no scoring that day.

Developing good study habits was emphasized by one of her teachers who quoted: "Hard work gives bacon a flavor any pig would be proud of." However, she did flunk her penmanship class, which was taught by her oldest sister, Zelma.

Being a natural born historian, Nell continued all her life to keep abreast of news pertaining to her classmates, friends, and family. Thanks to her confidant Joy Hall Grant, school historian and local newspaper informer, Nell obtained current information throughout all the years of her adult life, and was occasionally able to attend the yearly Mangum High School Alumni Banquet, along with her sister, Helen. Nell was a graduate of 1936 and her sister, Helen graduated in 1932.

Nell's love of genealogy never faded as she aged. Due to detailed research, her first genealogy composition, entitled BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE, was self-published and included original as well as copied photos, detailed information, and beauty. Family members participated by returning Nell's requested data and statistics needed for that period of time.

Such documentation and critical study led Nell to submit and receive valuable information for Jill Wickersham Burton, a bibliographer involved with receiving facts necessary for a future editing of THE WICKERSHAM FAMILY IN AMERICA, which was published in 2001. Nell became Jill's best researcher as well as the most generous historian she had ever worked with, even though the two had never met. Through telephone and letter correspondence, relaying accurate facts of countless hours of dedication as well as family bonding, the two finally met of 2013 in Georgetown.

During a short period of Nell's life, she traveled to Winslow, Arizona to visit her sister, Zelma. An opportunity to be hired as a waitress in a high quality restaurant as a Harvey Girl awaited her. Dressed in a white starched uniform, she served meals to passengers on The Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Rail-road as they took a break before continuing traveling.

The highlight of Nell's life was a trip to Alaska beginning in the summer of 1946, right after W.W.2. Nell, along with four other single women and an old Mexican Chihuahua dog, loaded two jeeps with camping equipment and drove up the rugged Alaska Highway from its' southern terminus at Dawson Creek, British Columbia, to Anchorage, some 1550 miles distant. spent 10 days and nights on "The Road" as the famous war built highway is known. Tires took a beating, but they endured. Returning to San Antonio after one year, they truly were the last pioneers on America's last frontier.

Back to her home in Channelview, she and her life-long friend, Rebecca Tumlinson and Rebeccas mother Ms. T, lived a happy life in their beloved log cabin. Nell continued her life of many talents, including carving wooden dolls, painting scenes on driftwood, wood burning, drawings, poetry writing, and brewing strong coffee. She fed stray dogs and cats, and even raised two storm swept alligators in her back yard.

Nell is survived by her 102 year old sister, Helen Wickersham Butterfield of Winter Park, Florida. She is predeceased by her parents Frank Morrell Wickersham and Lillie May Sword Wickersham, her siblings Zelma Wickersham Hutsell, Victor Eugene Wickersham, William Jefferson Wickersham, Robert Ambrose Wickersham, Nina Wickersham Knight, and Ashley Lowe Wickersham, her life-long friend, Rebecca Tumlinson and her mother, Ms. T. She will be greatly missed by numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be held , 19, 2016 at Cook-Walden Davis , 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas with an open invitation to lunch beginning at 12:00 noon. Visitation will start at 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. and the funeral service will follow at 3:00 P.M.

Many thanks to the loving care given to Nell by the staff at Wesleyan on Scenic Drive.

In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances can be made to Wesleyan Benevolent Fund, 2991 Scenic Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78626.

under the direction of Cook-Walden Davis , 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78628 (512)863-2564.

Obituary: Frances M Wickersham went to be with her Lord 29, 2013. She was born 16, 1944 in Dallas, TX to Henry and Alma Wickersham.

Growing up Frances attended Bowie Elementary and was always a sweet child who was content and happy entertaining herself. She had a large family that she loved to visit with and a very special aunt and uncle.

Frances was very patient which helped with her needle point. She would create beautiful needle point. So beautiful that, when she would give something to a family member they would get it framed. She was so detailed with her needle point that you could turn them over and it would still look good.

Bingo and Yatzee were her games of choice, and she was defiantly a true Texan. She enjoyed to listen to country music and of course the great Elvis Presley. Frances didn't collect much of anything unless it had Elvis Presley on it.

She is survived by her sister Glenda Felps and husband Douglas of Greenville, TX, nephew Doug Felps Jr. of Greenville, TX, niece Amy Cain and husband Paul of Norwick, England, great-niece Taylor Elizabeth Cain of Norwick, England, aunt and uncle Jim and Martha Allen, and several cousins.
