Obituary: James "Jim" Robert Werner, born on , 26, 1955, passed away on , 24, 2014. Jim was the son of David and Verna Werner. He was "Kid 3" of five children. Jim's father was in the navy and, as such, Jim traveled the country often, staying in various places such as Virginia, Hawaii, New Mexico, and Austin, before settling in Houston, Texas. From an early age Jim loved stories, whether written or on screen. He was an avid reader, particularly of sci-fi. He loved seeing his favorite stories presented on the big screen. He also enjoyed acting out his favorite stories, directing his siblings in scripted scenes and games of super heroes and secret agents. As an adult, Jim harbored a desire to become a novelist and did indeed work on a novel over the years. Jim also was an audiophile and enjoyed listening to live music whenever possible. Jim attended University of Texas at Austin and was a member of the fraternity Alpha Phi Omega, a fraternity known for its community service. He was very intelligent and taught himself computer programming languages. He started as a computer operator on the midnight shift at Gulf Oil and worked his way up to become a successful computer programmer and then systems analyst for companies such as American General, Riviana Foods, and Grocer's Supply where he worked for 17 years. Jim was always compassionate and kind to everyone he met. He went out of his way to ensure everyone felt included and taken care of. Jim is survived by his two daughters, Erin and Shannon Werner, and by his siblings, Dave Werner, Matt Werner, Charmaine Martin, and Suzy Ellis. Jim was loved by everyone who knew him. He will be missed tremendously. Family and friends will gather to celebrate this wonderful man's life at a memorial service in the Waltrip Room of Heights , 1317 Heights Boulevard in Houston, at 2:00 p.m. on , 10, 2015. |

Obituary: Mr. Henry J. (Hank) Werner was born to Hungarian immigrants on 25th, 1913 in Chicago, Illinois, followed by the births of his sisters, Margaret Cook and Christine Koepe. During Mr. Werners elementary school years his family lived on a farm ten miles north of Chicago near a small town known as Half Day. It was there his father worked as the foreman for that farm which was owned by the Chief of Police of Chicago. completing elementary school the family moved back to Chicago. As a token of gratitude for his work as foreman, the Chief of Police gave Hanks father a regulation 1913 Chicago Police Department issue pistol. This pistol is the only item Mr. Werner owns as a remembrance of his parents. Thanks to retired Abilene Police Department Sgt. David Gage, the pistol was on loan for a period of time at the Abilene Police Museum. As a young man Mr. Werner was an accomplished baseball catcher. While attending Lane Tech High School in Chicago, his team played for the city championship in Wrigley field. Apparently he impressed the Chicago Cubs as they hired him, while still in high school, to work as a warm-up catcher which allowed him to suit up for home games at Wrigley. graduation from high school in 1931 Mr. Werner became a professional baseball player in the Nebraska State League. Unfortunately, he suffered a career-ending injury and returned to Chicago where he learned and perfected the art of baking. In 1941 Mr. Werner was called into service where he continued his baking skills. While stationed at Camp Barkley in Abilene, Texas he met and married Gladyce Suggs of Clyde Texas in 1943. Soon after, Hank was sent overseas where he served in Africa, the Mid-East, and Europe. While in Europe he also managed a U.S. Army European Baseball League team. Having completed his WWII service Mr. Werner returned to Abilene in 46 where he was welcomed by his son Frank who was born shortly after Hank was sent overseas. Mr. Werner worked as a baker for Meads Bakery for the next 23 years and in the maintenance department of Aileens, Inc. for the next 9 years before his retirement. He was a member of the VFW, the Fairmont Methodist Church and is the sole Werner survivor. Hank was known locally for his golfing skills. He shot his age many times at the Maxwell Golf Course where he was fondly known as "Hammering Hank". |

Obituary: Dale L. Werner, age 52, was suddenly called to eternal life on 2, 2008. He was born 24, 1955, in Norfolk, Nebraska. Dale was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church. He was a decorated Army veteran and attended the University of Nebraska. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and the Oak Hills Country Club, where he was affectionately known as Sparky. He was well known in the medical community. He was preceded in death by his father, Ruben Werner and brother, Duane Werner. Dale is survived by his mother, Luetta M. Werner; sisters, Deanna OConnell and husband, Wayne, Darci Erdeljac and husband, Jim, Della Robinson and husband, David; beloved nieces and nephews, Jacqueline and Mackenzie OConnell, Joseph Erdeljac, Drew and Dylan Robinson.
