Obituary: WEISS Stanley Lee Weiss, 80, passed from this life in the early morning of 10, 2006, at his home in Belton. Stanley was born in San Antonio in 1926, where he later attended Central Catholic High School. He served our country as a soldier during World War II, stationed in France. At various times, Stanley attended Texas A&M, the University of Minnesota, Central Texas , Oklahoma City University, and Trinity University. Stanley married Joan Elizabeth Silk of Topeka, Kansas on 18, 1948. marriage, Stanley worked as a clothier and tailor for 30 years in Killeen, where he owned two clothing stores, Stanley Weiss MenÂs Store and MarkÂs Army Store, an appliance repair store and several apartment buildings. Stanley and Joan raised their two sons in Killeen and were widely known and well regarded in their city. For 22 years, they sponsored a midget baseball league team called the Stanley Weiss Arrows. Stanley was a longtime member of Killeen Lodge #1125 A.F. & A.M., the Killeen Lions Club, Killeen Heights Rotary Club and the Killeen Chamber of Commerce. At an age when many consider retirement, Stanley changed horses and became a stockbroker for A.G. Edwards & Sons, Inc., where he worked until finally retiring some two decades later. Stanley was loved in his community and by people around the country and the world. He was a vivacious, warm and generous man who brought a smile to the face of all he met and, along with Joan, consistently sacrificed to provide for others. During all his successes and setbacks, and throughout his years, Stanley remained kind and true to his principles. His life was not without adversity, but he met every challenge and rebounded from each loss with an almost unyielding optimism, supported by the strength of his character and the love of his family and friends. It is this vitality of spirit, this personal fortitude that will be most sorely missed. Stanley is survived and will always be loved and remembered by Joan, his wife of 58 years; his children, Mark Eugene Weiss and his wife Janet Bray, of Austin, and Alan Bennett Weiss and his wife Delaina Hodgden, of San Antonio; his grandchildren, Jesse Zachary Weiss and his wife Meredith Campbell, of Austin, Benjamin Nelson-Weiss and Brendan Nelson-Weiss, of San Antonio, Spencer Bray Weiss, of Austin, and Forrest Hodgden and Zoë Hodgden, of San Antonio; his great-grandchild, Zachary Colin Weiss, of Austin; his brother Alvin and his wife Thelma, of San Antonio; his nephews Michael Weiss and his wife Dina of Silver Springs, Maryland, Leslie Weiss and his wife Kimberly of San Antonio, Tony Weiss, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and niece Robin Friedman and her husband Alan, of Gaithersburg, Maryland; his grand nephews Brian Weiss and Kevin Weiss, of Silver Springs, Maryland; and countless cousins around Texas and the country. |
